Born Alice Olive Bradley in Londonderry, Ireland on August 31, 1930, Alice (or Lala, as she was known to her family), lived in various parts of Ireland and England before emigrating to the United States in 1970.
Alice worked for many years at Flushing National Bank and, upon retiring, became very active as a volunteer for Selfhelp Community Services and the Selfhelp Alzheimer’s Resource Program at Scheuer House, the independent living facility for senior citizens where she resided. Alice earned numerous acknowledgements for outstanding service to the community from both The Council of the City of New York and The New York State Assembly.
Alice is survived by her three children: Christine, Keith and Joanne; her five grandchildren: Helen, Peter, Jacqui, John and Katie; and herseven great-grandchildren: Terri, Lloyd, Lauren, Saskia, Maddie, Joshua and Eliza.
It was Alice’s wish to be cremated. Following a private memorial service for her friends here in Flushing, Alice’s ashes will be sent to her children, who reside in Europe.
Sharing memories of his “Mum,” son Keith had this to say:
Shewas a very loving caring Mum who always told me to be careful when sending me on an errand. She would say to me. “If anything happens to you, I will kill you!!!”
Mum took my two sisters and I on many memorable holidays and, on her visits back to England, she very much enjoyed seeing her family. Unfortunately she only got to see one of her seven great grand children (Terri)but, when Maggie (her daughter-in-law) sent photos of her great-grandchildren to her, she found it a great comfort.
It is with very great regret that I could not have seen more of my dear Mum in her later years.
Love you Mum.
