Andrew Pafitis, age 90, of Flushing, New York passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. Andrew was born on July 28, 1931 in Lefkara, Cyprus. Andrew immigrated to the United States in 1950 and lived in Astoria with his late uncle, Harry. In time he moved into the home of his late sister, Anika. He married his loving wife, Katy in 1955 and had two sons, Constantine and John.
Andrew loved working. He had a job before he landed on the shores of New York. He started as a tailor in Brooklyn, a furrier in Manhattan and finally his favorite, a NYC cabbie all over the streets of New York. He loved his cab, and his family loved the stories that he brought home. There was always something exciting he could report on, and his family would wait anxiously every night for him to come home.
Andrew loved the mountains and the fresh air in Tannersville. He loved the cedar pines in East Marion, he loved the ocean in Palm Beach, but he especially loved his family and friends that he would sit with at the kafenio on 30th Ave. in Astoria or with his kafe buddies at the Burger King on Northern Blvd. Family and friends were his true love no matter where he was. Andrew loved life, loved America and loved his family. He was proud of his Cypriot culture and taught us the subtle differences between Greek and Cypriot traditions. He made life exciting and provided guidance and leadership inherited through his belief in God, family and country.
Andrew is survived by his devoted wife Katy, loving sons Constantine and John, cherished grandsons Andrew and Nicholas, his newborn great-grandchild, Jackson John, his brother Charlie and many cousins, nieces and nephews who have all been enriched by his love of life.
A silent visitation for Andrew will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at
