A 50 year resident of Bayside and later Manhasset, he was cared for by family while he continued to try to care for them. Predeceased in 2012 by his loving wife of 60 years, Rita, he always dressed “sharp” in a jacket and tie. His kindness, humor and sociability led him to numerous friends representing all walks of life.
Born at home in NYC to immigrant parents, he was the middle child of 5, with fond memories of his mother’s homemade soup for lunch. His varied work experience began with selling newspapers on the train platform at age 10, and included jobs as a soda jerk, car showroom assistant, window washer, and baker.
Edmund served 2 years in the US Navy from 1943 to 1945, stationed in Hawaii. He made seashell necklaces and designed metal watch bands for his fellow shipmates, using scrap metal from the junkyard. When he returned home to Queens, he resumed his job at Stuhmer’s Bakery in Brooklyn, and met the love of his life, Rita, a secretary in the main office. They married in 1952, and became parents, homeowners, gardeners, grandparents and world travelers. He always pursued his lifelong desire to repair and recycle, thereby earning the title of “Mr. Fix-It”.
Edmund was predeceased by his 2 sisters, Mary and Sophie, and 2 brothers, Stanley and Rudy, the latter being his buddy and partner in mischief.
He leaves behind his son Roger, daughter Phyllis, and much beloved daughter-in-law Karen Murcott. His 3 granddaughters include Christine, Amber, and Nicole and grandson Brian along with his 12 nieces, 6 nephews and 5 cousins. Donations in his memory are greatly appreciated, as he supported the Kosciuszko Foundation, accessible online at Thekf.org.
