A visitation for Fernando will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Quinn Fogarty Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358. A funeral service will occur Friday, April 25, 2025,10:00 AM at St Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 138-65 Barclay Ave, Flushing, NY 11355.

El Hombre, El Mito, La Leyenda.

Con profundo dolor, anunciamos el inesperado fallecimiento de Fernando Vera el 16 de Abril de 2025. Nacido el 21 de Mayo de 1958 en Colombia, hijo de Gonzalo Vera Novoa y Leanor Ordoñez De Vera, Fernando fue un hijo, padre, abuelo y amigo devoto, cuyo amor y dedicación marcaron la vida de todos los que lo conocieron.

En 1990, Fernando tomó la valiente decisión de traer a su familia desde Colombia a los Estados Unidos, decidido a construir una vida mejor. Aunque dejó Colombia, nunca dejó atrás a su familia — siempre los cuidó y los apoyó, sin importar la distancia. A través de su incansable ética de trabajo, su resiliencia y su fortaleza, realmente construyó el sueño americano. Sus sueños solo crecieron con el tiempo, y nunca dejó de luchar por ellos. Fernando fue el trabajador más dedicado que conocimos — valiente, generoso y absolutamente determinado. Podía lograr cualquier cosa que se propusiera.

Fernando no solo era un hacedor — era un soñador. Un verdadero visionario, siempre iba un paso adelante, viendo posibilidades donde otros veían límites. Fue un artista y un artesano, con un ojo para la belleza, la precisión y la creatividad que se reflejaba en todo lo que tocaba. Ya fuera construyendo, reparando, diseñando o creando, su trabajo era su arte.

Vivía para su familia, y todo lo que hacía era por ellos. Su pasión por la cocina reunía a las personas, y su espíritu generoso tocaba a todos los que lo rodeaban. Con un corazón enorme, compartía sus bendiciones sin reservas. Era un bromista natural, con una personalidad encantadora y una habilidad única para hacer reír a cualquiera. Su capacidad para resolver cualquier cosa — por más complicada que fuera — era verdaderamente impresionante. No habrá nadie como él.

Fernando no fue solo un líder — fue un mentor, un maestro y un protector. Se preocupaba profundamente por su gente, especialmente por quienes trabajaban a su lado. No era solo un jefe; él levantaba, inspiraba y guiaba con bondad y fortaleza. Para muchos, fue más que un compañero de trabajo — fue familia.

Fernando fue nuestro lugar seguro, nuestra mano firme. Tenía una manera especial de hacerte sentir que todo iba a estar bien. Fue una manta de consuelo, una luz que guiaba, y una fuente constante de fortaleza.

Fernando ahora se reúne con el amor de su vida, Sonia Bustamante, quien falleció el 12 de septiembre de 2023. Su partida dejó en Fernando un dolor tan profundo que nunca sanó por completo. Aunque siguió adelante con fortaleza y dignidad, siempre le faltaba una parte de su alma sin ella. Mantuvo viva su memoria en todo lo que hacía. Ahora, están reunidos nuevamente, juntos en paz eterna, continuando su historia de amor más allá de esta vida.

Le sobreviven sus queridos hijos: Jakoni Ortega Bravo y su esposa Jaclyn Quiceno Bravo; Merly Vera Carrion y su esposo Bryan Carrion; Jenny P. Vera y su esposa Angela Schipano; Kevin Vera y su pareja Stephanie Leal.

Su orgullo y alegría fueron sus nietos: Moises Ortega, Jalyn Ortega, Jian Ortega y AJ Schipano-Vera, cada uno de los cuales le trajo una felicidad infinita.

Está reunido en paz eterna con sus queridos hermanos, Orlando Vera y Germán Vera, quienes partieron antes que él. También es recordado con amor por sus hermanas, Ángela María Ordoñez, Janet Vera y Martha Isabel Vera, así como por sus sobrinas y sobrinos, quienes lo amaron profundamente y continúan llevando su memoria con fuerza y cariño. Su lazo con sus hermanos fue de toda la vida e inquebrantable — arraigado en el amor, la lealtad y los sueños compartidos que trascendieron fronteras.

Fernando será recordado por su visión, su calidez, sus historias y su amor inquebrantable por su familia. Su legado vive en todos nosotros.

The Man, The Myth, The Legend.

With deep sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of Fernando Vera on April 16, 2025. Born on May 21, 1958, in Colombia to Gonzalo Vera Novoa and Leanor Ordonez De Vera, Fernando was a devoted son, father, grandfather, and friend whose love and dedication shaped the lives of all who knew him.

In 1990, Fernando made the courageous decision to bring his family from Colombia to the United States, determined to build a better life. Although he left Colombia, he never left his family behind — he cared for and supported them always, no matter the distance. Through his unwavering work ethic, resilience, and strength, he truly built the American dream. His dreams only grew bigger with time, and he never stopped striving. Fernando was the hardest worker we knew — fearless, selfless, and endlessly determined. He could do absolutely anything he set his mind to.

Fernando wasn’t just a doer — he was a dreamer. A true visionary, he was always ahead of his time, seeing possibilities where others saw limits. He was an artist and a craftsman, with an eye for beauty, precision, and creativity that shaped everything he touched. Whether building, fixing, designing, or creating, his work was his art.

He lived for his family, and everything he did was for them. His passion for cooking brought people together, and his generous spirit touched everyone he met. With the biggest heart, he shared his blessings freely. A natural jokester with a charming personality, he had a gift for making anyone laugh. The way he could figure things out — no matter how complicated — was unbelievably impressive. There will never be anyone like him.

Fernando wasn’t just a leader — he was a mentor, a teacher, and a protector. He truly cared for his people, especially those who worked alongside him. He wasn’t just a boss; he uplifted, inspired, and guided with kindness and strength. To many, he was more than a coworker or employer — he was family.

Fernando was our safe place, our steady hand. He had a way of making you feel like everything was going to be okay. He was a safety blanket, a guiding light, and a source of strength.

Fernando now joins the love of his life, Sonia Bustamante, who passed on September 12, 2023. Her passing left Fernando with a heartbreak so deep it never fully healed. Though he carried on with strength and grace, there was always a part of him missing without her. He kept her memory alive in everything he did. Now, they are reunited, together again in eternal peace, their love story continuing beyond this life.

He is survived by his loving children: Jakoni Ortega Bravo and wife Jaclyn Quiceno Bravo. Merly Vera Carrion and husband Bryan Carrion; Jenny P. Vera and her spouse Angela Schipano; Kevin Vera and partner Stephanie Leal.

His pride and joy were his grandchildren: Moises Ortega, Jalyn Ortega, Jian Ortega, and AJ Schipano-Vera, each of whom brought him endless happiness.

He is reunited in eternal peace with his beloved brothers, Orlando Vera and Germán Vera, who passed before him. He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters, Angela Maria Ordoñez, Janet Vera, and Martha Isabel Vera, as well as by his nieces and nephews, who loved him deeply and continue to carry his memory with strength and affection. His bond with his siblings was lifelong and unbreakable — rooted in love, loyalty, and shared dreams that spanned across borders.

Fernando will be remembered for his vision, his warmth, his stories, and his unshakable love for his family. His legacy lives on in all of us.
