

Helen is survived by her children, Christopher Meskouris, Stacey Paschalidis, Gregory Meskouris and Trista Morin, their spouses, 10 grandchildren and 2 in-law grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years George Meskouris and her second husband of 10 years Peter Mavro, as well as her parents Michael and Aristea Lahana and her brothers Thomas Lahana and Peter Lahana.
Helen was born on May 5, 1927. She was a longtime beloved school secretary at P.S.22 in Queens, NY. Helen attended Hunter College and later on in life Queensborough Community College. She also helped her husband George manage their wholesale/retail fish market. For many years, she was also an active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church serving in many capacities including as a proud member of the Philoptochos Society. She also volunteered at St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children.
Helen was loving, caring and witty and made anyone who met her feel like they were immediately part of the family. She was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who asked. Helen’s passion was her family and her friends. She loved to bowl, travelling and spending many weekends in her summer home in Mattituck, NY. Her strong will and determination helped her through some difficult times and allowed her to live such a long and full life. She lived her life under the proverb that “cleanliness is next to godliness” and cleaned things whether they needed it or not.
Due to Covid 19 her funeral will be immediate family only. A memorial service will be held for friends and family at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Flushing Hospital COVID fund (please write in the description in memory of Helen Meskouris), Alzheimer Association or the American Diabetes Association.
