Ivoire was born in the Netherlands on September 5th, 1988. She spent her youth in Chicago before moving to New York City at the age of 14. Ivoire leaves behind her loving family – her parents Rosemary and Marc, sister Aimée, fur babies Max and Lola, and beloved fiancé Jonathan.
When she stood up very straight, Ivoire was 5ft tall. A natural artist, she spent her life creating with the energy of a small tornado. She drew, sang, played the guitar, and studied photography. But above all, Ivoire loved music and dancing. She reveled in large music festivals and small karaoke bars alike.
Ivoire was known for her remarkably positive attitude in the face of many serious health issues. She battled her body with unrelenting bravery. Ivoire survived cancer (Wilms tumors) three times, diabetes, pheochromocytomas, and much, much more. In 2016, Ivoire suffered a heart attack that resulted in the loss of her right leg below the knee. Right away, Ivoire became active in the amputee community – unafraid to show people what life was really like as an amputee.
Ivoire was singular, but she stood for the whole. She extended a hand to all in need and believed in equality. It is no surprise that Ivoire made a giant impact on those who knew her, no matter how briefly. She was surprising and honest. She was funny and kind. She was optimistic and caring. She was energetic and fun.
Ivoire leaves this world a quieter, less interesting place. She will be remembered forever. Gone, but not from our thoughts. We love you, Ivoire.
