James M. Kola was born on July 1, 1929 in Jamaica, NY and passed away at the age of 90 on June 19, 2020.
He was the son of the late Michael and Myrianthe (Mougis) and older brother to the late Stanley. He is survived by his sister-in-law Walene (Emanuel Kola), nephew Michael, niece Anna and her husband George (Dariotis.)
James spent much of his youth growing up in Norfolk, VA before the family returned to Jamaica, NY.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. James was a shoe salesman and the manager of Sample Shoe Store, on Main Street in Flushing NY. He was a proud Cypriot/Greek-American who loved his AHEPA Family having served as president of the local Estia-Pindus chapter for a few years and belonged to the Enosis Lefkariton Cypriot organization.
Some of his favorite past times were playing bocci and bowling, gardening (growing tomatoes and cucumbers especially), playing cards and backgammon and watching all kinds of sports especially his most favorite New York Giants.
His good humor and lighthearted spirit will be greatly missed.
Funeral Service will be held on June 23, 2020 at 9:30 am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 85-35 152nd Street, Jamaica, NY. Interment will be held on June 23, 2020 at 10:45 am at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 65-40 Grand Avenue, Maspeth, NY.
