It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of John (Yianni) D. Papageorgiou. Yianni was born in Kythnos, Greece. Beloved husband of the late Kathryn Papageorgiou, father of Jimmy Papageorgiou (Eleni) and Anna Drimalitis (Dimitrios), grandfather to Vasili Drimalitis (Mariann), Themia Papageorgiou (Jonathan) and Yianni Papageorgiou. “Barba” Yianni came to America with a dream. And after much hard work and determination, realized his dream by opening his first diner in 1962, in Manhattan. That led to his 50+ year run at La Parisienne, also in Manhattan. He will always be remembered as a hardworking and generous man.
The family of John will be receiving visitors at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church 196-10 Northern Blvd., Flushing, NY 11358, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 for a visitation from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. Funeral Liturgy to follow at St. Nicholas GO Shrine at 9:30 AM. Interment to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, 127-15 Kew Gardens Road, Kew Gardens, NY 11415.
