

Joseph Francis McMahon, 93, died peacefully at the Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook University on March 29, 2017. Joseph was born in Brooklyn, New York. Joseph joined the United States Marine Corps when he was 17 and did 2 tours of duty in World War II. Joseph served as a New York City police officer for 33 years, receiving the “Cop of the Month” award twice. Joseph enjoyed staying physically fit, swimming and gardening.
Joseph is survived by 4 children, Maureen, Sharon and Brian McMahon and Jennifer Ropiak; son-in-law Ronald Ropiak; 4 grandchildren, Colleen, Katherine and Caroline Narvaez and Benjamin Ropiak; and 2 great-grandchildren, Gavin and Tyler Sholun. Joseph is predeceased by Kathleen, his loving wife of 64 years; brother James and sister Mary.
