I did not hear of Linda's passing until well after it had occurred.  May her soul continue to rest in peace.  Lasting prayers to her family.

I'm so glad I got to meet and spend time with my cousin Linda this spring when I visited New York. I am so sorry to hear that she's passed.

Dear Rudy, 

Although you and I have never met, I feel I know you because of the loving way Linda talked about you and looked forward to your trip "back home" after spending time in Florida. From her, I know how close the two of you were; you have my deepest sympathy.  I'm proud to say I've known Linda for about six years in her work at PAL and as a board member of the Day Care Council of New York. Linda served on the Board for four years. She was an expert in early childhood education from her work at PAL and devoted her time to us to ensure the future of the system. We will miss her dynamic personality and funny spirit.

Rudy, I just learned about Linda's passing.  I don't know what to say.  I had the pleasure of working with her at PAL for over 10 years and she became a dearly loved friend.  I still can't believe her indomitable spirit is gone.  There are no words to describe how deeply I feel her loss.

Dear Rudy, I will always remember the visits of our families as children and then as a teenager I stayed with you all for a day or 2. I remember Linda tucking her mass of hair up into a curly wig and then she and I went to a club for young people. No alcohol. Sbe always had a vitality about her. She always loved my dad and mom. Rudy, I am shocked and saddened by the news of Linda's passing.  My deepest sympathy.  Last saw her at Kenneth's son's wedding and she was lively and loving.  She will be missed.  Carol Gerson

I will miss my cousin Linda, whom I rarely got to see. I guess there is always a strong family connection. Linda always made it to important  family events. I feel like something

This picture shows the true spirit of my cousin Linda - although she would probably prefer a picture where she was properly fixed up and a bit younger and slimmer! I'll always remember the video she played at her 50th birthday party!   One section was to the song "It's Raining Men!"  What a hoot!  Typical of her sense of humor and typical of her strong sense of self.  Linda wasn't a person to be pushed around or to fear voicing her opinion.   She was strong, smart, confident, loyal, opinionated, fun, loving, brave, bossy, and a great and a great and much-loved cousin.  We lost our son several years ago, and Linda lent us her condo as a place to escape to during Thanksgiving.  Those trips were just what we needed, as Linda must have known.  

I wish I had a picture of Linda in her beloved New York.  She loved her city and loved to show it off.  She hosted my daughter several times when she was in her early teens and I learned later that she did the same with daughters of other friends and family members.  I showed up almost unannounced with my 20 year old son and 15 year old nephew.  Both griped about going into awful NYC.  By the time we left a few hours later, both were converted New Yorkophiles.

I'll miss Linda's spirit.  I wish that the employers of the world could have realized what they were missing out on when they passed her up for jobs.  

I wish I'd been able to attend the funeral service.  I would have like to sit around with Linda's friends and laugh and tell Linda stories.  I'll miss her.  If someone decides to put together such a gathering, let me know.  I'll get myself to New York.

  She was a good hearted woman & you should be proud father of how she fought a terrible disease such as bladder cancer.

One of the  greatest blessings in my lifetime was to have Linda Matula as a friend. I met her during her glory days in the early 1980's while she  worked  at  the Damon Runyan Cancer Fund. We  had  our  share of laughter, adventures and stories  to share. There  was  never a  dull  moment  if Linda  was  around. There was  certainly our  share of party hardy days but there was  much  more  depth to her friendship. Linda was  there  for me through  the many  hardships  and  challenges  that  I  had  to  face over the  years. She  always  had  a  way  to make  me  laugh  and  show  me  the  bright side of  life. My  life  has  been  enriched  beyond measure. I  will  forever miss her  but  never  forget the  sunshine  she  brought  to mine  and  every one else  that  came  into  her orbit.  As  Pam  said  before me, thirty  plus  years of friendship  just  wasn't enough.

Dear Rudy:

My most sincere condolences on the loss of your very special daughter, Linda. As you know I had the great privilege to work with Linda several times in the past 28 years and to share a special friendship with her during all of those years. Her unique outgoing personality, intelligence and warmth made instant friends of everyone she met. She had the special  ability to work hard, then "party harty" with the best of them. There will never be anyone like Linda Laural Matula. I truly hope that God grants her the special place she has earned - and that He is ready to deal with someone who will most likely challenge Him on every decision He makes.

I had the great good fortune -- and lots of fun -- to be the roommate of Linda's for a few months in the early '80s. She was lovely and funny and kind, and I know through a mutual friend that she always stayed that way. I'm so glad I had that chance to know her. This is a terrible loss, and my condolences to everyone who loved her. To Linda herself, I'll just say thank you, thank you, thank you.

Rudy, family and friends, Linda will be forever in our hearts as we are all the richer for having known her. She left us too soon -- 33 years of friendship was not enough. We shared many happy times together and I was proud to call her my friend. May her memory forever be a blessing to us all.

Rudy, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm thankful that Paula and her children were able to visit Linda this weekend and say their goodbyes. Linda was such a kind woman with a great sense of humor. She will definitely be missed.

Dear Rudy: How can I find the words to share almost 45 years of friendship with your family.  I loved Kay like a mother  and grieved with you and Linda when we lost her.  I never thought I'd grieve with you after losing our Linda.
I never thought that my daughters would have to feel the pain of the loss of MY contemporary whose continuing support of their challenges and successes has marked them both forever. Linda is gone but never forgotten and will ALWAYS occupy a piece of our hearts.
