On Sunday, July 27, 2025, Lorraine Muller passed away at the age of 99. Lorraine was born on March 19, 1926, in Manhattan and raised in Woodside, Queens by her beloved parents, Samuel and Anna McNichol together with her two older brothers, Samuel (“Sammy”) and William (“Billy”).
Lorraine attended Julia Richmond High School and later worked at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as a secretary in the 1940s and later worked as the school secretary at St. Andrew Avellino School during the 1980s.
While growing up in Woodside, Lorraine met her beloved husband, Gunther Muller. They were married for 57 years, were deeply devoted to each other, and they cherished their seven children: Mark (deceased), Lorrie, Tommy (deceased), Alice, Betty Anne, Terence, and Gail.
A true member of the “Greatest Generation,” Lorraine was dedicated to her family, her faith, and her community. For over 40 years, Lorraine was an active parishioner of Mary’s Nativity in Flushing, serving as President of the Rosary Altar Society, officer of the Home School Guild, member of the Parish Council, and as a Eucharistic Minister. Many life-long friendships with fellow parishioners and neighbors were built along the way. After moving to Long Island, she even continued to volunteer her time to iron the altar linens as a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church of Roslyn until the age of 90.
Lorraine always credited her faith in God as the source of her incredible strength to endure the losses of her two children and continue to be the caring and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother through the age of 99. Lorraine filled our lives with countless memories of wonderful holidays, birthdays, and family vacations and she also provided straightforward advice and loving support throughout challenging times in each of our lives for which we are eternally grateful. Lorraine was admired by many for her strength, faith, and resilience and will always serve as a role model for all of us.
Lorraine is predeceased by her husband Gunther, and her two sons, Mark and Thomas. She is survived by her children Lorraine Grey (John), Alice Calhoun (Larry), Elizabeth Muller, Terence Muller and Gail Muller; grandchildren Jennifer Loos, Richard Loos (Devin), Alison Long (James), Thomas Calhoun (Olivia), Elizabeth Quartararo (Chad), Joseph Godsell, Ana Schade (Joseph), Mark Godsell; great-grandchildren Jaedon, Devon, and Jackson Seneca; Angelo Greco; Abigail, Charlotte, and James Long; Cayden, Madison, and Ava Quartararo; Jack Schade; along with many dear nieces, nephews and friends.
