Lou was a guiding light in my life from the moment we met at the Vet Center. With firmness, warmth, and humor, he continued to help me heal from both my childhood wounds and my military service, guiding me through the pain. He helped  me learn more about my wife’s amazing Puerto Rican heritage and culture. He shared his wisdom, his love for history, and the joy of food, in which we share. His fatherly presence, and the warmth of his lovely wife Iris and their family will always be remembered and cherished for many years to come.  

Lou, you are loved so much!  I will never forget the wisdom you shared with me and will apply it forever in my life and children’s lives… Semper Fidelis

So many words, and loved for so many reasons but in the end, all roads lead back to badass. I half see my dad running into heaven as a dark brown little boy, being greeted, lifted, and hugged by his mom. I see him finally getting the love he should’ve had. I see him happy. I see her happy. I see peace. I see understanding. Dad became Comanche entirely on his own. He became a badass on his own. Unlike his kids, who had a real-life, tangible badass to show us what badassery looked like, he had no one. He was a complete and total self-made badass. What Dad really wanted was for us to graduate from college, to be healthy, and to live life fully. For his girls, he wanted us to be independent and always said we “need to be independent so we do not have to rely on a man for security.” Dad made sure the circumstances of his life didn’t repeat in ours. That’s not how he wanted us to reach badass status. My dad lived trauma and never once let it define him. He was a fierce defender of those less capable, always for the underdog (cue the Rocky theme song). And while he was a sympathetic man, he didn’t believe in succumbing to trauma under any circumstances. If ever there was a person who could’ve or should’ve, it was Dad. But he didn’t, because… he’s a badass. Too strong for that. His sense of humor. His goodness. His strength. His resiliency. His no-fucks attitude. His ability to walk the walk and talk the talk. His intelligence (street and book smart) that’s what made him Lou the Legend…the badass. They don’t make them like Lou anymore. Yes, he survived because he was a badass but also because he was loved and had a lot to live for. He loved the hell out of us kids (and we loved him back). He always hugged and kissed my brother goodbye, and he called me his little pumpkin. Erica was his Bright Eyes and Nessie was his Little Face. He lived to 82 because he was a badass — but also because he was loved. I love you dad. Please visit me in my dreams.

My condolences to my cousins.  I know you will miss Louie deeply, but know that many will continue to have warm memories of him. It’s been years since we gathered our families together, but many years ago when we did we always had discussions about Puerto Rico and how we loved the island. I loved his passion for our island’s history, music, culture and his beautiful family.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Lou was a great guy!  He was totally devoted to Iris.  He loved and was so proud of his son and daughters.  His grandchild’s brought him much joy!  I will miss his smiling face.  He never hesitated to stop to say hello.  I enjoyed watching him walk the dog ( sometimes in his bathrobe 🤣).  He was always willing to lend a hand even if that got him in trouble for doing things he shouldn’t be doing.  I will miss him and never forget!

I knew Lou for close to 70 years, I guess.   Lou was a great and true friend...He was a leader, admired and respected by  his contemporaries. He was  a patriot who always answered his nation's call to service. He did not shy away from the many challenges that confronted him. High spirited and so full of life.... He was a man's man.

My sincere condolences to his wife and family. I keep him and them in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for your service. You have served with HONOR and left your legacy with every person  you have influenced through the many years of distinguished service. A brave servant of God and country. As you are laid to rest I stand and salute you. Go with God.

Lou was a friend of mine for the last 17 years. He was kind, smart, a patriot and most of all a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a retired soldier and a Vietnam Veteran. 
I will miss him greatly.

Uncle Louie’s tender love for his family & freedom radiated in all he did. His smile was contagious (still is).
