Mary Teresa Sands died at the age of 89 on Tuesday morning, September 29, of causes related to Alzheimer’s disease while in hospice in New Jersey. A lifelong resident of Queens, NY, she loved New York City and regarded it as the virtual center of the world. She earned Baccalaureate and Master’s degrees in English at Queens College and had a fulfilling career as a NY City teacher of high school English. She retired from John Adams High School. Predeceased by her husband Al, she is survived by her children Jeffrey, Teresa, and Stephen, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358 from 9-11 AM on Friday, October 2 with a graveside service to follow at St John Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Ave, Middle Village, NY 11379.
