Matilda I. Tashjian

Beloved wife of the late George of 66 loving years . Loving mother to Louise, Richard, Carol and Joseph. Cherished grandmother of Alexander, Raquel, Grace, Melody, Sophia and Lucy. Wonderful mother-in-law to Christie and Janet.

Matilda was an inspirational pioneer, graduating from CCNY in 1950 as one of the first female chemical engineers. After taking time to raise her children, Matilda went back to school and earned a Masters degree in teaching (secondary mathematics) from St. John’s University in 1980 She then spent many years teaching mathematics and computer science to a legion of students at Forest Hills High School, something she truly loved doing into her 70’s. Her legacy and spirit will live on through her family and the countless students she loved and embraced, and the memory of her favorite classroom saying: “slow is fast.”

The family of Matilda will be receiving visitors Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, 9:45am at St. Kevin RC Church, 45-21 194th Street, Flushing, NY 11358. The interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4199 Webster Avenue, Bronx, NY 10470.
