So many of us have fond memories of your mom which will always bring a smile to our hearts when we think of her. Rest in peace Tia Rati.

Eulogy to our Mother

I don't want to upset frank or Maria, but I was mom's favorite and I can prove it!

Mom always told me that her name had 2 R's .....for Ruben.....because she loved me twice as much as the other children.

Welcome. I am Ruben, the son of Monserrate Muñiz and I've been offered the opportunity to speak for a few minutes about my mother, whose life we are celebrating here today together. 

I realized as I set about this task, that a son sees his mother in a different context than those of you who are lifelong friends or family members. 

It is even difficult to speak on behalf of my siblings but I will try to represent the shared feelings of love, devotion and admiration we all felt towards our mother. 
My mother would be very pleased and honored to see that you were all able to make it here this morning to share in her journey of life with us, as it was her family and friends who were the most important focus of her life. it was also your continued support, well wishes and prayers which were so valuable to her in her final weeks.

I wish to thank Gloria, Rolando and Christian for taking care of mom for the last 10 years.....we will never be able to thank them enough for the love and care they gave to mom.

Mom has moved....we did not talk of dying but of moving to heaven and I find myself at peace over her moving.

I think most of my grief occurred watching her decline.

I have received many e mails and Facebook postings from people telling me how much they loved mom and many said that she was like a second mother to them.

William & Yvette said that moms open house was as warm as her heart....she always greeted you with a smile and had a warm meal prepared for you;

Caryn said ....perhaps they are not stars in the night sky....but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.

Many people judge how successful you are in life by the car you drive or the home you own or the money you have in the bank.....I judge how successful you are by the number of people you loved and the number of people who loved you.....and mom was loved by many.

Mom, it broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone for part of us went with you on the day God called you home.

The hardest part of mom moving on in her glorious journey to heaven is missing her here on earth, but remember that mom is peaceful and joyous in heaven.

I wish to thank  family and friends for visiting mom at home and at the hospital.  I wish to thank those who came to visit mom and took her out to lunch or dinner or brought her,  her favorite foods....she was always very excited telling me who stopped by and brought her food or snacks.
  
In closing, always picture mom on the sidelines of your life cheering you on through your challenges, praying for your happiness and if you should fall, picture mom with an outstretched hand to help you up.

And if you need a picture of mom:
picture her dancing, for she loved music;
picture her singing, for her soul was an expression of her love for life;
picture her laughing, for her spirit was filled with joy;
picture her waiting for you....and always loving you.

She will live in our memories and our hearts forever and I will always be extremely proud to call myself the son of Monserrate Muñiz.
