

Paul Tymus, 87, of Middle Village, New York, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2023. He was born in NYC on December 24, 1935 to parents Peter and Anna (Stehnach) Tymus. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy Sheridan Tymus, son Paul Tymus and wife Helenka of Stony Point, NY, daughter Debra Tymus Zizik and husband Robert of Stony Point, NY, and son Matthew Tymus and wife Gina of Middle Village, NY. He was the proud grandfather of Lauren Marie (Tymus) Prokos and husband James of Montvale, NJ, Michael Paul Tymus and wife Brittany of Bloomfield, NJ, Matthew Alexander Tymus and Heather Isabella Tymus of Middle Village, NY. He was Pop-Pop to great-granddaughter Stella Rose Prokos, whom he adored. He is also survived by his brother Peter Tymus and sister-in-law Olga, and nephews Daniel and John Tymus. He was predeceased by his nephew, Peter Tymus III.
Paul taught industrial arts, specializing in woodworking, for 25 years at Nathan Hale I.S. 293 in Brooklyn, NY, followed by 13 years at William Carr J.H.S. 194 in Whitestone, NY. Later in his career, he incorporated robotics into the courses that he taught which was cutting-edge at the time. Paul particularly enjoyed participating with his students in the yearly miniature sail boat races that took place in Central Park. He was an accomplished athlete for most of his life and he imparted his love of sports to his children.
Paul was a devoted member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Whitestone, NY. He served as President and Vice President, and was a member of the Board of Trustees for over six decades, contributing his expertise to many of the building and grounds initiatives. He chaired a number of bazaars that added much needed funds to the church treasury. Paul was also an integral member of the committee that oversaw the construction of the cupola. He was awarded two Gramotas in recognition of his many years of faithful service to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 30th from 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM at Frederick Funeral Home located at 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY, and Friday, December 1st from 2-9 PM at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church located at 14-65 Clintonville Street, Whitestone, NY. A Divine Liturgy will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 8:30 AM; interment will follow at Flushing Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank everyone for the prayers and support of Paul over the past 2 ½ months. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests his memory be honored by donations to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church.
