Roy Euker was born April 5, 1932, and passed away January 28, 2025. Roy was born in Michigan, to parents Edward and Alma Euker. Roy had a sister Shirley Williams, and a brother Gordon Euker who both preceded Roy in death.
Roy was an architect in New York City, running RE Architectural Services for over 50 years, and designed and constructed many projects in and around New York.
Roy was married to Phyllis Euker and they were both an adventuring couple, traveling across nine countries in Europe to explore architecture and landmarks from the Guggenheim Museo Bilbao in Spain and Paris’ Villa Savoye, to the Victor Horta House and Studio in Brussels and Rietveld Schröder House in the Netherlands.
After Phyllis passed away Roy still traveled but he always said it wasn’t the same without her. Roy would prepare for each trip by reading about the architects, buildings and people of the places he wanted to visit. Once there he would often befriend cab drivers or locals to help him get to places he may otherwise not have visited. He said it really helped him to get to know a place. Roy traveled extensively to Europe, making the trip 29 times.
The University of Buffalo has one of the largest study abroad programs, sending dozens of architecture students overseas every year, many traveling to Europe through global summer studios in Barcelona, Paris and Rome, and exchange programs in Denmark, Germany and Belgium. To assist other up and coming architects, Roy came to the University of Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning in 2009 with a generous scholarship endowment that would honor his wife, Phyllis, and her love of European architecture. In its first three years, the fund has helped send 11 students to Europe. Roy also became a mentor to several architecture students and frequently corresponded with them about their studies and travels to places like Barcelona, and explorations of architectural and cultural landmarks along the Irish coastline.
Once Roy was not traveling as much, he kept busy by researching and creating leaflet booklets that told all about architects and artists that he sent to many family and friends to enjoy. Roy had a sense of adventure and was a very creative person who also played piano for many years and was a lover of Jazz.
Roy Euker is survived by his son Norm and his wife Caroline, along with his daughter Emily and her husband Joe.
