We are so deeply sad to know that Tess is gone. This wonderful woman served as an example of just how good people can be. Smart, curious, hard working, generous, always fair and interested in those around her, Tess could strike up a conversation with anyone, putting them at ease and building rapport. She took care of her own, and even well into her 80s never shied away from raking her own leaves, planting her flowers, tending to her fig tree, trying to clean her own gutters (usually by daringly leaning out of her second-floor window with a long stick, banging away at it and attempting to scoop out the leaves without tumbling to the ground!) or shoveling snow. She was shrewd: never did a repairman have a more challenging encounter than when Tess was grilling them. Couldn’t that tile you’re smashing off the bathroom wall get reused? Are you sure the oven part costs that much? Do I really need a whole new garage door? Yet Tess lived — oh, how she lived! She would jet off to Yankee Stadium or Broadway, hit the city with her sisters, spend time at her senior center or with her beloved kids. But always, she was rooted in College Point. “I’m not going anywhere!” she'd declare, content with a walk around the park, or sitting on her stoop with her New York Post in her hands. She loved her Jeopardy, even if the dang cable box did often malfunction. She was tolerant. “People make noise,” she’d say, and shrug if maybe the neighborhood got a bit louder than some of us liked. She took care of her space, expecting the same from others. She always took the time to talk to neighbors. There’s a reason so many of us think of her as a second mother. And what a mom: dedicated to her son and daughter, who in turn, were equally dedicated to her, regularly stopping in for pizza or to take her out, playing the piano, singing and laughing. A role model of quality, and character.  May we all follow in her footsteps. We will miss you so much.  Love Dylan, Kathianne, Kathleen and Penny

Im just learning of Tesse's passing. I am heartbroken and my sincere condolences to Juliet and John.  Tesse was like my second mom and I have so many fond memories that i will hold close to my heart.  I love you and will miss you.  Thank you for being a big part of my life.  Rest In Peace. 

I will miss her very much. She was like a second mother to me on the block growing up. Always had a smile on her face, always happy to see me.  I loved fixing the dents on her VWs so many years ago.  May you rest in peace Mrs P.
