He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shiu Hing, their three children, their spouses, and six grandchildren.
When he was about 7 years old, his family moved from Roanoke to Canton, China in order to start a new life with the fortunes that they had worked so hard for in America. Unfortunately, this new life was not to be. World War II was to ravage the family, and they lost their father and virtually all their earthly possessions.
As a young boy, Yeng’s life was turned upside down, and he had to grow up fast in order to help care for his family.
When Yeng was a young man, he arrived in New York City with only a few dollars in his pocket. His task was to earn a living here in order to support his family back in China. He washed dishes during the day and went to night school to earn his electronics certification. This opened the door for a career in aviation.
Yeng had worked at Pan American Airlines and then at Delta Airlines as an avionics technician for a total of 32 years. Yeng was mechanically inclined and was known to be constantly fixing things all his life.
We will miss his vivid stories detailing everything from village life in Toisan, China to his early days as a young man in America.
Those who knew him will remember his meticulous organizational skills, record keeping, and endless supply of supplies, which came in handy often.
He devoted his life to supporting his family and always enjoyed his time with his beloved grandchildren.
Our father’s legacy is his work ethic, generosity, and kindness.
