I was lucky to have spent a few memorable months with Bryna in Hawaii. She was such a special friend and lived a life full of Simchas Hachayim, kindness, and fun. Bryna, I miss you, and I hope your neshama has an aliyah.

I ache for Bryna's family, friends and the wonderful life she could have had. Bryna, you inspired me, I love you very much

I have no words, my heart breaks for her family, friends and the wonderful life she would have had, from the way she interacted with kids, it was obvious she'd have been an incredible mother. Bryna, I love you very much, I will miss our talks, hearing your thoughts and ideas and most of all being inspired by you, you gave me so much

The more I think, the more memories I have with Bryna come to my mind, but there are 2 distinct ones that have been surfacing recently. The first, on our MMY shabbaton in Tzfat. A big group of us went to a cave to sing (it is known for its acoustics), and as we left, we noticed a little Israeli boy dropping rocks into it. It made me upset, but I just walked by. Bryna immediately in a calm, soft, and gentle, but disapproving voice, told the little boy in Hebrew “ze lo na’im,” (that is not nice). Bryna had a beautiful voice, whether singing or just speaking, used her words to uplift so many people, but also used it to stand up for what was right. In MMY we were some of the few vegetarians-I once jokingly called her my veggie soul sister. Her heart was just too big to stand by any kind of suffering. The second memory was Yom Kippur in Mevaseret, where by Hashgacha Pratis I sat next to her. Her kavanah was so inspiring and had a significant impact on me. During davening I noticed Bryna turning to the back of the machzor where all of the explanations for the different parts of Viduy are. I had never seen someone do that before, immediately copied her, and continued to do that for every Shemonah Esrei (and now I continue to do this every Yom Kippur that follows). It was a completely different Yom Kippur. After the davening was over we and a few other friends danced our way singing l’shana haba to our break-fast (there is no way you would known we had just been on our feet with no food or drink the entire day). That was the first Yom Kippur I can say that I truly felt like an angel. Probably because I had one right next to me. 

Bryna was such a special friend to me. We were in MMY together, when she was shana bet and I was shana aleph. Actually, when she was shana aleph and I was a senior in high school I came to visit MMY and sit in on some classes. One class I went to, Bryna happened to be in. I happened to have recently broken my foot so I was on crutches, and when she saw me walk in she immediately welcomed me and my dad into the class, brought chairs for us to sit in and gave us her source sheet so that we can follow along. I thought she was so nice. We started chatting and realized we are both from Queens and  ultimately we bonded over that, and going to Camp Acheinu. The following year when I came to MMY I was so excited to see Bryna was there for shana bet. She gave me to same warm
welcoming as the year before and was always so positive and happy. I went to visit a bunch of seminaries that week when I went to  MMY,  that class where Bryna brought us chairs and was so kind, and sensitive  really always stood out to me. When I would think about that week I always thought about Bryna’s kindness towards us. We were lucky enough to then work on Yachad Getaway together the following summer and had such a great time there. All the campers on the program really loved Bryna. She was so good with them and would do anything to make them happy and laugh. Bryna will be missed so much. Her happiness, positivity, and kind nature will keep inspiring me.

I met Bryna the first day of my shana alef at MMY. Everyone was looking around the beis for a makom and Hashem led me to the back corner where I was greeted by the warmest smile I'd ever encountered. Bryna was sitting across from me and the second I sat down she labelled me her "makom buddy." I was astonished to see that the cool shana bet-er was so eager to be my friend.  Within the first week of seminary she took me out to waffle bar for dinner and made me feel like a million bucks. She had a way of making everyone in her life feel like the most important person in the world. After seminary, we lost touch a bit but it was not the end of our story. I had the unbelievable zechus of getting to live in the same room as Bryna Brocha the months before she left this world. At the Levaya, so many people brought up Bryna's kindness and ability to see to the needs of others despite what she was going through. I remember one morning waking up in a bad mood and not wanting to go to class. Despite the fact that Bryna was going through so much herself, Bryna made it her responsibility to cheer me up and make me breakfast in bed. She would not rest until she saw that I was happy. She was constantly motivating me to be better and successful in my personal and academic life. She would have given me the shirt off her back if I needed it just because that was the kind of person she was. She needed nothing but to give to others. She was the kindest and most special person I have ever known and she will be so greatly missed by every person that she ever came in contact with. There is no one in this world with as much simchas hachaim as Bryna had and that love for life was contagious. May her Neshama have an Aliyah and may her friends and family get nechama in this painful time. I love you Bryna and miss you so much. Thank you so much Hashem for giving me the time I had with her. 

I knew Bryna when I was a freshman in high school and she was my senior. I was in choir with her for our production and she treated  me like I was a friend her own age. She made me feel like a mature person and like I mattered to the group. I remember her always smiling, including everyone, and trying to make everyone laugh. May her neshama have an Aliyah❤️

I had the great pleasure of teaching Bryna in an English course at Stern College in the Spring of 2020.  She was a wonderful student and  a wonderful person.  What a terrible loss.  Please know I am thinking of her-- and of her family. 

Bryna was always someone I gravitated towards at any Perkal event. She was warm, welcoming, accepting of all. She was so easy to talk to, so relatable. I remember speaking to her at a wedding and laughing with her; she really enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. She spoke of Hawaii and what she wanted to do with her time. She was truly an inspiration. I wish I had more time to get to know her better. 
Thank you Bryna, for teaching me how precious life is. I will always be thinking about you.

My name is Stephen Spencer, and I had the pleasure of teaching a course that Bryna was in in the Fall of 2020. Our course was on Zoom, but I and the other students certainly felt Bryna's warm, perceptive, and generous presence as we discussed literature and film. Bryna's essays were also a real treat; she was a truly insightful reader with a talent for captivating writing.  I feel grateful to have played a very small part in Bryna's intellectual development, and I have learned a lot (as a teacher, but also, as a human being in the world) from her passion for the well-being of others. Please accept my deepest condolences for the passing of Bryna. May she rest in peace, and may you as well find peace, in time, as you come to appreciate the deep impact Bryna has had on those who got to spend time with her.

  Our memories of Bryna a"h go way way back as did her friendship with our daughter shoshana.  Her gentle yet passionate nature and sense of fun fill my mind today as I think of her. My sister and I got to Hawaii late in the semester and didn't really know anyone else there. At dinner the first night, Bryna immediately came over, introduced herself, and sat down at our table. She told us about her day--how she'd wanted to swim all of the ocean--and made us feel so welcome. Her bubbly personality and innate kindness were radiant, and I will be forever grateful to have known Bryna.

Bryna Bracha was always so happy and had such Simchas Ha-Chaim.  She had such a flair for the dramatic.  It was always a treat to see her whether at the house for a rehearsal or a Shabbos or Yom Tov meal.  Bryna Bracha was always a huge part of it.

Bryna was an unbelievable friend to me, and so many others. She made all those around her feel so important and so loved. She lit up every room she entered. May her Neshama have an aliyah.
