Edythe Dranoff, born on December 19, 1936, in Brooklyn, NY, Ede lived her beautiful life in Brooklyn, NY; Bellmore, Long Island; and Boca Raton, Florida. She also enjoyed a few “second homes”, namely her daughters’ homes in NYC, East Hampton, and Shoham, Israel. Most suddenly and sadly, she passed in her sleep on October 18, 2025, while visiting in Israel (for the 58th time!) at the age of 88.
Ede had an early career as an elementary school teacher, and with her flair, transitioned to a successful and satisfying career as an Interior Decorator, regularly winning awards for excellence. When she moved to Florida and retired, she was a volunteer at a number of organizations, including for many years at a Boca Regional hospital, but her favorite volunteer role was as an usher at a local theatre where she went with her close friend, Ilene, dressed stylishly in black, flashlights in hand, directing theatregoers to their seats, and enjoying the comedians, the singers, and the shows. She particularly enjoyed the performers who she had never heard of before, and getting exposed to new music and trends. Ede relished the variety that life had to offer, and people. At restaurants she always wanted a seat with a good view for one of her favorite pastimes - people watching. She played bridge and canasta, exercised regularly, visited museums, traveled, and never missed family events.
Ede was the super proud and amazingly loving mother of Cindy Stamer of NY and Hollie Moscovitz of Israel; of three awesome and impressive grandchildren – Sharon, Yarden and Yoav Moscovitz; and of two wonderful male partners in her daughters’ lives, Gideon Moscovitz and Allan Recht. Ede was predeceased by her loving husband, Mort Dranoff, and was held closely in the warm embrace of his large and lively family, including five children – Dede, Suzy, Lisa, Judi, and Buddy - their spouses, twelve grandchildren, their spouses, and the new generation of Dranoff great-grandchildren.
As a mom, grandmother, honorary mom, sister, aunt, and friend, Ede had a knack of making the people in her life feel special. She was an attentive listener, remembered events and ongoings in everyone’s lives, and had a way of connecting warmly with people. Everyone loved Ede! People who knew her described her with words such as: sparkling, special, positive, cheerful, full of life and joy, full of sunshine and genuine caring, and a true gift to all who knew her.
Ede took good care of herself and was in amazing shape considering her age (88). She lived a full, healthy, satisfying, and independent life. If there is a silver lining to her sudden death, it is that it came while surrounded by family, and following a year of many happy occasions and celebrations.
She will forever be missed by those she loved and who loved her.
