
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May, 20, 1930 and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1948. After graduation, he and several friends departed for Israel as part of the Hashomer Hatzair Zionist movement, and eventually settled in Kibbutz Galon. It was there that he met his future wife, Claire (Orit), who had emigrated from French Algiers. They were married on May 22, 1954, and celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in May, 2010.
After 14 years on the kibbutz, Emanuel, Claire, and their 2 children returned to the United States. Emanuel attended night school while holding down a full-time job, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College. Emanuel spent almost his entire career at the international moving & shipping firm Interconex, Inc., where he was for many years Senior Vice President of Operations.
Emanuel had a passion for Israel and for his grandchildren.
He is survived by his two sons, Yuval and Arie; a daughter in-law, Bonny; 3 grandchildren, Channa, Samuel and Gilda; and a brother, Sheldon. His wife Claire died in 2010.
Funeral services will be held at the Schwartz Brothers-Jeffer Memorial Chapel in Forest Hills, NY on Sunday March 4. Interment will be at Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens.
