Jerry Kaye, beloved husband, father, stepfather and grandfather (Poppy), passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the age of 85. He passed peacefully after an extended illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Jerry was born Jerry Klinghoffer in Brooklyn in 1932 and was a proud New Yorker all his life. He attended high school in the Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx, attended City College in Manhattan, and lived and worked in Queens. Jerry served in the Army in his early 20’s, serving as a company clerk in Germany during the Korean War.
Given Jerry’s natural charm and eagerness to connect with people, he worked in sales for his entire working life. After a series of sales jobs in various industries, he settled in with Allstate Insurance Company in Queens, where he thrived for 30 years. He loved his job and took great care of his clients; his work friends from Allstate were his extended family. Jerry loved Broadway shows, fine dining, going to the beach, Mets baseball, trivia, funny stories and jokes, and spending time with friends and family.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Debby Gordon Kaye, and children Ken Kaye (Deana) of Durham, NC and Julie Sack (Ken), of Morrisville, NC. Other surviving family include Debby’s sons Jonathan (Karen), Rob (Tara), and Eric (Sandra), plus 14 grandchildren who will miss their Poppy greatly.
