Mark Roger Perlman, age 79, passed away on September 14, 2025, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, in Los Angeles, California, after battling multiple medical issues. He was born on May 28, 1946, in Washington, DC, to William Murray Perlman and Joan Max. As a child, he lived with his mother in Miami, Florida, before moving to Manhattan to reside with his father and step-mother, Edith Freedman, where he spent his formative years. Mark was a graduate of Cherry Lawn School in Darien, Connecticut; St. Paul’s School, in Garden City, New York; and Syracuse University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1968.
Following his graduation, Mark pursued a successful career in sales with Proctor and Gamble, The Bureau of National Affairs, and Matthew Bender & Co., earning numerous awards and setting company records. His work took him to Boston, Massachusetts; Hamden, Connecticut; and London, England. On June 25, 1977, he married Ruth Leonard. Shortly thereafter, the couple returned to the United States, making their home in Concord, Massachusetts, and later in Beverly Hills, California.
Mark enjoyed bodysurfing at Fire Island, scuba diving off the Southern California coast, and was a self-styled “gourmet gourmand.” He had a deep love for dogs, especially a Gordon Setter mix named Puppy, whom he affectionately called his “brother’s son.” His determination was a hallmark of his character, and he prided himself on being undaunted. He was a sober member of AA for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jill Perlman, and half-brother, Michael Bushell Laurence. He is survived by his three children: Siri Alice Perlman, of Los Angeles, California; Joshua Samuel Perlman, of Sandy, Utah; and Mollie Jill Perlman, of Redondo Beach, California; as well as his granddaughter, Anna Marta Perlman. Mark was laid to rest in the Stolin Independent Benevolent Society section of Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Flushing, New York.
A graveside service will be held at Mount Hebron Cemetery, located at 130-04 Horace Harding Expy, New York, NY 11367, on September 18, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
