I discovered you through youtube while lying in the hospital bed after getting diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes at the age 37 in 2019 on the eve of my daughter's first birthday. While dismayed on how I would live with this new condition discovering your book and YT channel allowed me to adopt this new lifestyle and within few months my Hba1c went from 13 to 5.6.  I live in new delhi, India and I discovered there are many who follow your methodology in this part of the world also and I will continue to try my best to evangelise your message to the 100 million plus people who suffer from the complication of this condition in this  part of the world. 

All I can say sir - Thank you for showing us the light and a path for living a healthy life.

Because I implemented Dr Bernstein’s ideas, I went from pre diabetic blood sugars to normal  blood sugars  16 years ago and am maintaining them. Both my parents had type 2 diabetes, and my mom was totally insulin dependent within 5 years. He personally responded to my questions via his YouTube site.  I know it is irrational, but I thought he would always be there. I will always be grateful and pass along his wisdom. We will miss you, Dr. Bernstein!

Dr. Bernstein is my hero. He profoundly helped T1ds like myself, and he wasn’t afraid to advocate and teach what is right. My condolences to his family.

What a great man!

 He was not only the patriarch of your family. He was a patriarch of multitudes. He turned his disease of diabetes into a gift. And he freely shared that gift with so many. His gift kept multiplying and continues to do so. 

For example, he shared that gift with me. Then I was able to share it with my own patients as well as with the medical students and residents that I helped train. Some of them continue to share it with their patients.

We'll never be able to calculate how far his gift has and will continue to spread! I'm sure he is receiving incredible rewards in the next world. Still, I wish he would have stayed with us longer.

I read Dr. Bernstein's book when I was really struggling with my diabetes.  I didn't feel my endo was giving me sound advice, so I called Dr. Bernstein's office to see if there were any doctors in my area that followed his method.  Guess who answered the phone?  The man himself!  He gave me some good advice that I still follow to this day.  I wish more endos would promote his "theory of small numbers" to help conscientious patients achieve normal blood sugar levels.

Dr. Bernstein saved my life. He's the reason I have three beautiful children. I'm eternally grateful and will never stop spreading his message.

Dr. Bernstein was a remarkable man. We never met, but when I was prediabetic, on my way to full-blown type one, we spoke on the phone just once, with several subsequent emails, and he paved the way for me to transform my diet and maintain my health. I owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Also, I had no idea that he was a sailor and wish we had discussed that. I was involved in the America’s Cup and Maxi Yacht Racing around the world and would love to have connected with him on that level as well!

Over three years ago my son was diagnosed with t1d. My husband and I refused to apply the horrible advice given in the hospital (when the dietitian suggested that my son still can eat sweets, I just need to pump him with more insulin) and started looking everywhere to find more logical solution. And one that works. As two physicists, we decided that carbs must be reduced to the absolute minimum if the disease means that diabetics cannot break down carbs. We went to our first appointment with very long lists of precise questions. Questions about diabetes, management and human body biology. We wanted to find out, to learn, to understand what we deal with. We got no answers, doctors and the whole team weren't keen on our questions. We came back with one message: carbs are essential. 
We decided to follow our path and cut the carbs to minimum. Automatically our son’s sugars and general wellbeing drastically improved, insulin needs dropped down to the minimum. We could see that our approach was working. But we still wanted to find the answers to our questions. Then I came across Dr Bernstein's book. The best book I could find. Dr Bernstein went into all the details, answered all my questions, showed that there is good way to go. He is my weapon to fight our diabetic team, to fight for our son's health, to advocate for common sense and logic, to stand up for your believes. He saved many diabetics from horrible consequences of following general medical advice, he saved my sanity and faith in good people. I never met him but will miss greatly this fantastic Gentleman. Thank you, Dr Bernstein, for being wonderful self.

Dr. Bernstein was instrumental in my diabetic journey as a role model for how to manage and to do well in the journey. I was diagnosed fifty years ago in Puerto Rico and had very little training (one piece of paper with basic instructions) and a ten-minute session in how to give an orange an injection. For twenty years I did the best I could with what little I knew. When I read "Diabetes Solution" I felt I had found the answers to how to manage and achieve normal blood sugars. I began to "follow" Dr. Bernstein from then on. I will be forever grateful to him for all I learned from him, for his positive and courageous stance on behalf of Type 1 diabetics, for all that he made possible in my efforts to live a more normal life. I thank him forever.

Though we never knew him, he's certainly added to our lives! I was prediabetic, and my husband is, though fighting to normalize his blood sugars and able to do that through  his meter.
Thank you sir for you and your family's sacrifices to humanity. You will probably never know how many millions, billions, or trillions of people you helped.

I am so sorry to learn of Dr. Bernstein passing. He changed my life course and had allowed me to live a very full life. I was diagnosed as type 1 in 1964, and this is my 60th anniversary. I was a post-doctoral fellow at the Jackson Laboratory in 1980 when I read Dr. Bernstein's article on home glucose monitoring, and realized this was for me. I bought an Ames Glucometer, and never looked back. I could take better control of my diabetes - and started MDI.

I’m indebted to Dr. Bernstein for his indelible influence on the T1D community. The first thing someone did when I was diagnosed was tell me to get his books! My A1C has been in the 5s as a result, with tight control. He educated me more than any other provider or educator. I often told people he was my de facto endocrinologist! I’m very thankful for him, and I hope sharing this with you eases your pain. May his memory be a blessing, and may you experience comfort in mourning his loss.

It’s remarkable how he had such a profound impact on our lifestyle, even from the other side of the world, here in the Netherlands, Europe. His influence has been incredibly positive on the health of so many people living with diabetes. His legacy truly reached far beyond borders.

Dr. Bernstein was the one that introduced me to the low-carb diet for the first time, back in 2016 when I was diagnosed with T2D. If not for him, I would snack on chocolates all day long, and by now probably being blind and amputated. Dr. Bernstein essentially saved my life, and much more others lives. He deserves every respect for fighting the system and insisting on the truth he knows. RIP.

Dr. Bernstein was my T1D 
mentor. He didn't know it, but when I came across his book everything started to make so much sense.  T1D here for 50 years. I will always remember Dr. Bernstein and what he taught me. I saw Drin 1990s being a type 1 a fewtimes, while ibhad unusual issues, dr tried to help,being of like mind in control as much as humanly possible. Dr Bernstein's work was life changing for me.  When I read that he was able to reverse his diabetic complications by tight control that was a revelation.  He literally did what no one at that time even considered possible.  His story of obtaining a home glucose monitor at a time when that was just not done by patients was groundbreaking.  He gave me a template to live my life.  I feel he should have received a Nobel prize for his work.  It is very disconcerting to see someone of such great stature pass.  God rest his soul.

Dr. Bernstein save my life. After the earlier edition of his book titled something like 'The Glucograf Method of Diabetes Control' kept talking to me from a shelf of The Golden Notebook bookstore in Woodstock, NY,  I finally bought it and put myself on the program. (Blessings to the person who put it there.) Not long after, I began seeing Dr Bernstein in his first office in Mamaroneck. That was about 40 years ago and here I am.

Dr. B was the most admirable man.  He has helped many, and will continue to help, through his learned books and his videos.

I am deeply indebted to Dr. Bernstein for letting me come and learn from him at his clunic/house. As a naturopathic physician, I immediately embraced his low carb methodology and needed to learn to properly educate patients on insulin dosing.  I was with Br. Bernstein a week and kept in contact with him over the next decade.  With his foundation I was able to become a leader of diabetes care in naturopathic medicine, help many patients over my career, and write my own diabetes book.  That was all due to Dr. Bernstein's brilliance, and his willingness to share and mentor others.  He has inspired and helped an endless number of people.  Thank you, Dr. Bernstein!!!

I want to thank Dr. Bernstein for his wisdom and  insight on diabetes care in every aspect:  self monitoring,  low carb diet,  tight glucose control to minimize complication. His view about what is considered as normal glucose range still challenge mainstream medicine guideline even today. What pioneer work has been done by him!  I wish one day a Nobel prize  would justify his contribution to our society and medicine field.  Dr. Bernstein will be greatly missed  in diabetes community!

Dr. Bernstein changed my life in a profound way.  I was diagnosed as a Type 1 during my childhood years, and while at a routine appointment, a doctor mentioned Dr. Bernstein's book to me. In RKB's early web telecasts, producer Steve Freed often remarked that reading Dr. Bernstein's  book would lower one's A1c. This was very true and his webcasts were all done for free. He was a remarkable man and he's now with his wife who really got the whole evolution started by subscribing to a trade journal where Dr. B spotted the ad for an early glucometer. There are no words sufficient to express the gift and legacy of the man I will always remember as the Sage of Mamaroneck.  See you on the other side.

When our son was diagnosed in 2019 with type 1 diabetes, we were feeling scared, alone, sad, overwhelmed and we thought our lives changed for the worse after diagnosis. But then we learned about Dr Bernstein and his book ‘The Diabetes Solution’ and we began the journey of resilience, strength and love. We followed his method as best we can and we can see our son is thriving.

Dr. Bernstein's book was the reason type II diabetes didn't kill me 18 years ago. I was 50 pounds overweight, heading for severe problems, when my mom told me to look up low-carb diets for diabetics. I found his book and ordered a used copy. I applied his advice and lost the 50 pounds and started to exercise again. Thank you, Dr. Bernstein!

What a worthwhile life Dr Bernstein led. My son, Steven, was diagnosed with diabetes in 2005 and because of Dr Bernstein's books and forum, I was immediately able to control his diet and insulin regime so that his control was excellent. In turn, I was able to help many of my own diabetic patients get normal blood sugars, have healthy pregnancies, prevent and reverse diabetic complications. I'm glad to have known Dr Bernstein and thank him for all his hard work in the face of astonishing adversity.

I’m an deeply saddened to hear of Dr Bernstein’s passing. My son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 2. The advice from the hospital was to give set amounts of carbohydrates with every meal and dose insulin accordingly. This advice combined with a picky toddler, meant he was living on a diet of high sugar snacks and a rollercoaster of high and low blood sugars. We knew in our hearts this wasn’t right. My own research led me to Dr Bernstein’s method. This was a complete game changer for my son and our entire family. The endocrinologists told us that we should be giving more carbs but could not argue with my son’s numbers and his healthy growth. Thankfully, we had the research of Dr. Bernstein to back us up when we were told otherwise. 
I will forever be grateful to this incredible man.

I give thanks to God for Dr. Bernstein, who taught the world so much about overcoming T1 diabetes. In the words of Leviticus 19, Dr. Bernstein was a servant to mankind who "loved his neighbor as himself."

Five years ago, I was in utter despair.
My young son had just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes — a condition in which the body no longer produces insulin. Insulin is the only hormone that lowers blood sugar levels. In contrast, dozens of factors raise blood sugar or reduce the body’s sensitivity to insulin.
High blood sugar levels can quickly cause damage to small blood vessels, especially in the eyes and kidneys. Our son has only one functioning kidney. I was at a loss.

Our worries deepened when our daughter was also diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. No matter how hard we tried — calculating, measuring, injecting insulin, exercising — we couldn’t achieve stable blood sugar levels.
Then we came across the work of Dr. Richard Bernstein.

His book Dr. Bernstein’s Diabetes Solution gave us the knowledge and tools we needed. With the support of our medical team, our family began to gradually apply his insights. And with success. Since then, our children’s daily fluctuations have decreased, their time-in-range has increased, and for the past four years, their HbA1c levels have been well within target — approaching those of people without diabetes.

Dr. Bernstein’s work made the difference between surviving and truly living with type 1 diabetes.

I’m a Toronto-based journalist who was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2002. I am a nurse who was experiencing very high blood sugar. I read the information from the American Diabetes Association which was vague and non-specific. I knew there was no hope of remission of my T2D if I followed the ADA.

I followed Dr. Bernstein's advice to print pages 160 and 161 (the "no-no list") and as he advised kept the pages with me in my purse at all times. I lost so much weight (and never gained it back) that people thought I had bariatric surgery. In the process I reversed my obesity, T2D, cardiovascular disease, asthma and arthritis. 
Dr. Bernstein deserved the Nobel Prize for his life's work. Many physicians, such as Dr. Ted Naiman, have learned from him and will carry on his memory and his work. 
God Bless Dr. Bernstein who saved so many lives and prevented so much needless suffering from complications of diabetes.

My heart is heavy learning of the passing of Dr Richard Bernstein

Dr Bernstein was truly heaven sent.  God took his time with you. 

What you have done for the diabetes community is second to none, absolutely none!  Your dedication to learning, teaching and just sharing with our community are EVERYTHING.

My heart is heavy as I think, if not for you, where would I be today?

I thank you Dr. B.  You were more than a man, you were a gift.  You were a light.  You shined bright for me and others. 

May your light never dim and we continue to honor you as you transition.

RIP, legendary doctor, educator. You will be missed.

Dr Bernstein gave me and my twin sister (also diabetic!) hope for the first time in our lives. 
We would worry endlessly, well what if we don’t reach a certain age with our diabetes? 
Dr Bernstein has given me the strength and insight to carry on with my 30+ year diabetic journey.
I hope that everyone who knew him and his family are so proud of him.
What he has done for the diabetic community will always be remembered.
Not only that but he was a terrific and generous human being.
My condolences, we are all thinking of his nearest and dearest right now.

A true pioneer of the time. Saved many lives and will continue to with his book! Thank you Dr. Bernstein for the hard work and dedication to letting us all know we deserve normal blood sugars and a healthy long life. You will be missed and remembered.

Thank you, Dr. Bernstein, you were a guiding light and inspiration to this diabetic.

I only had a few interactions with Dr. Bernstein in a more professional capacity. Those interactions were rich with various topics of interest to both of us- holistic health, the capacity for the body to heal, aliens, and a desire to help others move into improved health and fulfilling lifestyles. 
His work will continue on, and may his Soul rest well, knowing he fulfilled his Destiny.

I have fond memories of spending many evenings with Richard and Joyce and hearing all about his amazing life. He will truly be missed. My condolences to Joyce and his family.  May he rest in peace. Fondly, Marina
