Samuel Beren, age 98, of Largo, Florida passed away on Saturday March 24, 2018. At 98, Sam was fortunate to have lived a very long, eventful & fulfilling life. Born in Brooklyn to Jacob & Lena. Sam was a proud New Yorker until the end. He often called Queens the most diverse place on Earth. And joked that the signs listing all the languages spoken had left off a very important one - Brooklynese. In 1941 he was drafted into the Army Air Corps & served as a weather man in the Pacific Theatre for the duration of the war. After the war, he worked for the NY Surveyor Lovell & Belcher prior to becoming a stock broker with Francis I Dupont and its successor firms. Always a garrulous people person, he loved getting to know his clients, & finally retired as a Vice President for Prudential Securities at the age of 81. In retirement, Sam continued to leave in the Bellpark section of Queens Village until he moved to Florida in 2015. Wherever he went he took a personal interest in his friends & neighbors. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Eve Beren, nee Rudinsky, in 2000. He is survived by his daughter Lynne Paz of Clearwater, Florida son Bill Beren and daughter in law JoAnn (Katzban), Montclair New Jersey. Son Steve Beren and his daughter in law Tammis (Sweeny) of Rochchester, Grandchildren Sabrica & Eban Barnett, Kate & Nicholas Katzban - Beren, Sarah Beren & Alexandra Hensel, and 2 great grandchildren, Arianna & Augustus Hensel. Sam was truly the last of his generation, as he often reminded us "young kids" that he will be missed by all who knew & loved him. Sam will forever be remembered for his generosity, quick wit, strong opinions, and his passion for singing Yiddish songs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to SNAP (Service Now for Adult Persons, Inc.) 80-45 Winchester Blvd, Bldg #4, CBU #29, Queens Village, NY.
A funeral for Samuel will be held Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Schwartz Brothers Memorial Chapel, 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, New York.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.sbjmemorialchapel.com for the Beren family.
