Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, Lawrence. She is survived by her devoted children Nancie (David) and David (Karen), five grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren.
Shirley was an elementary school teacher, a clinical social worker, and a psychoanalyst. She loved poetry, art, classical music, and was an avid reader of literature. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge, and was very proud that she was still leading a local, weekly poetry group. Those who knew her appreciated her lively spirit, her candor, her genuine kindness, and generosity. Most important to her were her close-knit family and many, loyal friends. While the pandemic was socially isolating, she was finally able to make a trip to California in June and see many family members, which brought her great joy.
The family will post information about a memorial service soon. In lieu of flowers, please honor her memory with a donation to the Academy of American Poets (www.poets.org/donate) or to the Holocaust Museum (www.donate.ushmm.org).
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.sbjmemorialchapel.com for the Spector family.
