Lola was the sixth child born March 27, 1926 to the union of Oscar C. Johnson and Mary Jane Lowe Johnson. Lola was preceded in death by her parent Oscar and Mary; her daughter: Earline Johnson; her siblings: Emmett Tom Johnson, June William Johnson Sr., and Lavaree Johnson Jones. Lola is survived by siblings: Oscar Lee Johnson, Mary Vene Johnson Brown, and Naomi Ruth Johnson Elders.Lola grew up on a plantation in rural Mississippi. As a young child growing up on the plantation, Lola could always carry her own weight. She was a very caring person and would lend herself to be helpful to any and everybody. There were twin babies born to Lola who were named Earline and Earl respectably and Earline died within a few weeks. During the 1951-52 school years Lola was employed by Simmons High School as a janitor and helper in the cafeteria. Lola identified with people in the sense of how much she could help them. She easily shared her concern and hope with anyone she met. Lola was an active member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church until she moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1952. When Lola moved to Chicago she began employment with the Nachman Spring Company from 1952 through 1975. In 1967 Lola began a second job with the Chicago Board of Education. She held the positions of cook, baker, and manager. This was her ideal job because she loved cooking. She could cook anything and she was constantly receiving accolades from all who sat down at a meal she had prepared. Lola retired in 1992 and even in supposed retirement Lola had to have a job so she continued to work at a job that she had been attending each summer for many years at the Lake of the Woods summer camp for children in Decatur, Michigan until 2005 when her health changed for the worse and forced her to give it up. Lola always characterized herself as strong and healthy and seemed to attempt to prove so by working all of the time. Lola’s good health never returned to its original status and she was forced to retire completely. Lola decided to move to Jonesboro, Georgia to be with her son, Earl Johnson. Throughout her life Lola was a devout Christian and loved the Lord with all her heart and called on the Lord every day to bless and keep her. Lola leaves to mourn her passing one son, Earl Johnson of Jonesboro, GA; three grandchildren, Kenneth, Phoebe, and Sondra; two great grandchildren, Latora and Cameron; four great-great grandchildren, Jayda, Dominique, Jordan and Ava and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Friday, May 17, 2013 at LIBERTY BAPTIST CHURCH, 4849 S. KING DR. CHICAGO, IL 60615.
