Predeceased by his parents, brothers, and wife (Denise 2013). Survived by his children: Pierre (Angila Shannon), Rita, Marc (Eva Van Emden) and grand-daughter Siobhan.
Walter’s body slowly turned off over a 4-year period and he passed away quickly and peacefully at the of age 94.
He grew up in Pubnico Nova Scotia and moved to Ottawa in circa 1949. He then started working for CN, finally settling at the Harbour Draw Bridge (Erie Canal) Blackrock, New York. Walter was kind to everyone, a devoted father, placed value on family, always set good examples, and helped others without asking for anything back. In Walter’s youth, education above Grade 11 was not readily available. Walter knew the importance of education and completed his Grade 12 at night-school, in his 40s.
He particularly enjoyed engineering projects and presented a self-contained rail-to-truck container transfer system to his employer in 1976. When the 35mm cameras became available, Walter was an avid enthusiast and created homemade photograph apparatuses. He was an executive member of the Fort Erie Camera Club. In 1978, he took on the project to construct the new family home on Champlain Drive East with the help and expertise of local contractors. Walter enjoyed singing and was a choir member at St. Michael’s Parish for many years. He was always willing to help with Denise’s projects, such as the Douglas Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Fort Erie Cemetery Board, and the Genealogical Society.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
