It is with great sadness the family of Arnold Haver announce his passing on Saturday, October 4, 2014. Peacefully with family at his side, Arnold has joined the love of his life; wife Marie. Arnold was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota on December 17, 1924 to the late Fred and Mary Haver. His family soon after moved to Mulvihill, Manitoba where his parents and younger siblings would reside throughout their earlier school years. In 1939, he was drafted to the army for four years, in which he travelled to various places in Canada for training. Along with his father, Arnold found work cutting wood in the Thunder Bay area in 1945 and in 1947 the family moved to make their home and farm in Crozier. Over the next several years Arnold continued to work at various jobs with his father and brothers around the district and would eventually purchase his own farm in Burriss in 1963. Where most would remember Arnold for his constant smile and cheerfulness, was when he began his 15 year career in 1974 working as a security guard for Boise Cascade and the O&M. In addition to working as security he took tickets at the bridge toll office.
On June 23, 1973, Arnold was united in marriage to the late Marie Brandrick, with whom he farmed, gardened and travelled to many places over the years throughout Canada and the US. Arnold had many skills, which included building a home for himself and Marie to reside in through retirement and up to her tragic passing in August, 2004. With his soul mate passing on, Arnold found it difficult to cope on his own and take care of the farm in Burris, so he moved to town and with some assistance, Arnold was able to enjoy living close to his sister at Flinders Apartments. When he was no longer able to reside on his own, a difficult decision was made to move to Rainycrest where he was nurtured and cared for. Arnold was later joined at his residence by his sister Nellie and brother Leonard who will feel such a void without him, a missing link from the “train”. He will also be so dearly missed by Val, Evelyn, Harlene, Gail and his Rainycrest family.
Arnold is survived by his sister Nellie Jerry, brothers Leonard and Ronald Haver, sisters in law Irene Hill-Haver, Erna Haver, Sylvia Brandrick and brother in law Ken Brandrick as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Marie, brothers Norman and Edward Haver, sisters in law, Elvera and Alma Haver, Hazel, Lorna, Shirley and Bonnie Brandrick, brothers in law Harley Jerry and Eric, Henry and Bernard Brandrick.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Arnold’s life was held on Wednesday, October 8th, 2014 at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, ON and following; burial took place in the Burris Cemetery with Father Wayne McIntosh officiating. Should friends and family so desire, donations may be made in his memory and in appreciation of his care, to the Rainycrest Long Term Care Facility or the Rainycrest Auxiliary in care of Green Funeral Home Box 427, Fort Frances, Ontario.
