It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden and unexpected passing of Brendon Sandford John Bruyere on Monday, April 26th, 2021.

Brendon was the second child born to Sandford and Laurie Bruyere on December 18th, 1989.

Brendon could be easily spotted running around the rez of Couchiching First Nation. He was often seen playing with the neighborhood kids, his cousins, causing havoc or running down the road with his mom chasing after him not too far behind. Growing up, Brendon took an interest in hockey and spent a number of weekends attending tournaments with his teammates. From an early age, Brendon took to the steps of his father, and became an avid outdoorsman. He made many memories hunting, fishing, and spending time on Rainy Lake with his dad and all the guys.

He spent several years in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. While out west he formed many friendships. His friends were his family. They were the people who came to know him best in more recent years and would say that Brendon was the guy to get the party started or get the party shut down.

To many, Brendon was the type of person with a spitfire attitude, but those who knew him closely would tell you he had a soft heart and cared deeply about those he loved. He was secretly a momma’s boy and would go to the ends of the earth for his family.

Brendon is survived by his Mother Laurie Bruyere (Edmonton, AB), Sisters Alyssa Bruyere (Morris, MB) and Lily Bruyere (Fort Frances, ON), Grandmother Phyllis King. Brendon also leaves behind his nieces; Alexis, Sophie and Khloe. He will be missed immensely by his family, including his Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and all the friends that he has made in his travels from Ontario to Alberta.

Brendon was predeceased by his father, Sandford Bruyere; Grandfather, Wallace “Swede” Bruyere and his Grandmother, Shirley Bruyere as well as his Aunts, Uncle, and Cousins.

A service will be held at The Duke Arena on Couchiching First Nation on Tuesday, May 4th, 2021 at 11:00am to 2:00pm. Due to COVID-19, capacity will be limited to 10 people. The family asks that anyone attending wear a mask or face-covering. Those with symptoms or those who may be at risk of having COVID-19 should refrain from attending.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Roach, George Bruyere, Keith Bruyere, Andrew Easton, Clay Beck, Jay Bruyere, and Jon Roach.

Addiction is complicated and is something that is not fully accepted by those who experience or witness it. It is a disease that no one chooses to be diagnosed with. We encourage people to educate themselves about this illness and how they can help those who suffer from addiction. Brendon’s family also strongly encourages those who struggle with this disease to seek opportunities to learn about the resources and help that is available to them.
