We are saddened to announce that Brian Roy McCallum Sr. passed away March 31, 2022 suddenly at his home after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Niagara Falls, ON on November 5, 1941 to William and Elsey McCallum. The family moved to Thunder Bay, ON shortly afterwards.

Brian went to school in Thunder Bay and graduated from Westgate Collegiate. He was an avid sports participant especially in football, baseball, hockey and curling which he excelled and many years of coaching in all age groups of sports. He was an avid Habs fan and loved to go fishing.

He met the love of his life Maxine (Cooper) at school and were married after graduation.

The family moved to Atikokan in 1966 and he excelled in all sporting activities mainly baseball, hockey and curling and met many great friends. He started working for Bob Moffatt Supply and then Great Lakes Forest Products and retired from there.

He served as Councillor for the Town of Atikokan and was an avid member of our Legion, holding many positions on the executive including President. He enjoyed playing in the local dart league with his good friends and had great enjoyment.

As soon as our golf course was built he was an enthusiastic player and played last year with the help of his great buddies at the course.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Maxine, his children Brian Jr. (Corrine), Val (Terry), Sue (Wade). His 4 grandchildren Casi (Lukas), Jordan (Katie), Adam (Mara), Joshua (Leah), and 4 great grandchildren Brielle, Kasia, Chloe and Leo. Brother Peter (Georgina) of Thunder Bay. Sisters-in-law Barbara, Jean and Margaret and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and son David.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Atikokan General Hospital or the George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. A service will be held at a later time in spring or summer.
