Remaining, forever cherishing her memory are her caring husband of 58 years, Ken Kellar, daughter Catherine Kellar (Ross Quirie), son Keith Kellar (Tammy); grandchildren Kenneth Kellar, Katelyn Quirie (Jared Pursaga), Jillian Kellar, Rikki Kellar, sister Joyce McLellan (Jack), her husband Ken’s loving family and nieces and nephews on both sides. Special thoughts are extended to Lois and Doug Medhurst.
Dixie was predeceased by her father Oscar Carlson, son David Kellar, sister Betty Asplund, mother Tillie Carlson (Albert Mattson) and brother-in-law Merlin Asplund.
Born and raised in Fort Frances, Dixie was a devout Lutheran, very active in the spiritual life of Zion (Evangelical) Lutheran Church. In her younger years, Dixie was an avid curler, golfer and bowler, filling her gracious home with useful trophies. Other passions in her life were family, friends and reading murder mystery novels, but nothing pleased her more than a challenging game of cards.
Ken and Dixie spent many wonderful times at their beautiful cabin on Black Sturgeon Bay with family and friends. There was always a place at the table, both at the cabin and in town for anyone stopping to visit. Dixie was a warm, interested and generous grandma to her four grandchildren.
Our deepest gratitude is extended to all the doctors, nurses and care providers at Cancer Care Manitoba and the Health Science Centre for their kind words and assistance in times of need.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will take place at the Zion Lutheran Church (1105 Scott St. Fort Frances, ON) on Monday, October 27, 2014 at11:00 am presided over by friend and pastor Brian Keffer. Pallbearers will be Dixie’s grandchildren, Kenneth Kellar, Katelyn Quirie, Jillian Kellar and Rikki Kellar.
We will always remember your smiling face and joking manner, in our hearts.
