

“Ned" was born on October 10, 1930 in Bell Island Newfoundland to the late Lawrence and Bridget Byrne. In 1966 he moved to Atikokan. He had worked as a labourer in the mines, both underground and open pit. He enjoyed playing solitaire, doing word searches, fishing, going for walks with Mary, reading the Downhome magazine and taking trips back to Newfoundland. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church. His wife Mary and family were the love of his life and he always enjoyed their visits and he will be sadly missed by them.
He was united in marriage to the former Mary Cole on September 8, 1951 who survives along with their 5 children, Larry (Gloria), Patricia Byrne, Eileen Cross, Rosalyn (Mark) Freeman and Edward (Cherie). Also left to cherish his memory are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, 3 siblings, Loretta Byrne, Mary (John) Ryan, James (Anna) as well as nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Agnes (Ben) Burke, Theresa, Kathleen and Annie Byrne.
A memorial mass to celebrate Edward’s life was held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. Father Elvis Odoeghbulem officiated followed by interment in the Little Falls Cemetery.
The honourary pallbearers were James Byrne, Monty Rundle, Paul Cross, Mark Freeman, Ed Byrne and Robert Freeman.
