Mom was born in Glenboro, Manitoba and moved to Fort Frances as a young child, where she attended school and graduated from Fort Frances High School. Mom met our dad Keith in Fort Frances and they were married in 1956. They started their family and spent their early years at French Lake in Quetico Provincial Park. Mom spent the majority of her life in Fort Frances and after our fathers passing, raised the four of us on her own. Life was not always easy for our Mom but she always faced every challenge head on and with great courage. She was a very strong woman who gave her opinion but did not compromise her integrity. Her resilient attitude and perseverance carried her through many challenges throughout her life. Mom was a very kind, loving and caring person and would help where she was needed and do anything for anyone. When it came to her family it was just the mention of them and their accomplishments that would put a smile on her face and you could see the warmth in her heart. Some of Mom’s fondest memories where spending time with her grandchildren. Whether it was spending time with them at her home in the summer or traveling to see them, she was always thankful for the moments to make memories and to see their beautiful faces.
Mom was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where you could find her sitting towards the back, hoping Brian’s sermon wouldn’t last too long so they wouldn’t miss their lunch reservation at the Rendezvous. Mom was an avid curler through most of her life. She was a member of the LaVerendrye General Hospital Auxiliary for over 40 years, a member of the Rebecca’s Lodge, the Scandinavian Club and in years past an avid bridge player. Since moving to Flinders she enjoyed her weekly card games and coffee with her many friends.
She is survived by her children, son, Guy (Marnie) of Edmonton, AB; daughter, Joanne (Matthew) Sanders of Victoria Harbour, ON; daughter, Carolyn (Sandy) Skirten of Fort Frances, ON. She adored her grandchildren, Jill, Sarah, Amanda, James, Richard, Katherine, Bryson and Chelsey; great grandchildren, Ayden, Kamden, Christian, Arianna, Jasmine, Sadie and Freya. Our mom also leaves behind her sister and friend Norma Pattison and her family.
She was predeceased by her husband Keith, son Lorne, parents; Steven and Jean Stephanson, grandparents, Albert and Jean Casscadden, in laws Cleve and Lillian Dalgetty, brother in law’s; Leslie, Doug, James, Pete Dalgetty and Leslie Pattison.
There will be no funeral service as per our Mom’s wishes; cremation has taken place with interment at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Fort Frances alongside our dad and brother Lorne. If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, 1105 Scott Street Fort Frances P9A 1J7 or a charity of your choice.
