

Leonard Bernard Roy of Fort Frances, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 11, 2010 at the age of 85.
Leonard was born on July 6, 1925 in Fort Frances to the late George and Eva Roy. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He worked as Heavy Duty Mechanic on construction sites across Canada and U.S. He was united in marriage to Karina Kirsila in 1947. As a young man he played semi-pro hockey as a goalie for many teams in both Fort Frances, International Falls, and Sioux City. Leonard was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 and the VFW in International Falls.
He is survived by his wife Karina of Fort Frances; all his children, Diana (Bob) Coulombe of Thunder Bay, Michael Roy (Tina Wilson) of Fort Frances, Donna (Razvan) Sima of Calgary, Lori Pederson (James Hourie) of Smithers, BC and Susann Boivin (Larry Norton) of Fort Frances; grandchildren Jeff Gaylord, Michael Roy, Tammie Roy and Rene Boivin; several great grandchildren and sisters, Virginia Eiden of Grande Rapids, Sharon McNaughton of Edmonton, AB, and Terril Pentney of London, ON and their families. He was predeceased by his father, George, his mother, Eva, his step-mother, Helen and his brother Donald.
A memorial service will be held on Monday September 13, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, ON. The family welcomes his friends to join them.
