Michael (Mike) Urbanowicz

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Michael (Mike) Urbanowicz, age 93, of 202 MacKenzie Ave. E., Atikokan, Ontario on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at his home in Atikokan with family by his side.

Michael was born September 24, 1919 in Beni Bereziw, Urkaine to the late Anthony and Natalie Urbanowicz. He served overseas during WWII. On June 26, 1946 he was united in marriage to Lucy Kowalenko in Germany. Following the war he moved to Canada with his wife Lucy to join him shortly afterwards. Michael worked for Steep Rock Iron Mines in Atikokan, Ontario for many years retiring in 1979. He was a long time member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed his family, friends and home and he will be missed dearly by his family and many friends.

Michael was predeceased by his wife, Lucy Urbanowicz in 2011; his parents, his brothers and sisters, and several other family members.

Michael is survived by his three daughters, Agnes (Ron) Halverson and Mary (Myron) Cory of Thunder Bay, ON., and Natalie (Mark) Arnone of Atikokan, ON.; three sons, William (June) Urbanowicz of Thunder Bay, ON., Tony (Wendy) Urbanowicz and Paul (Canadia) Urbanowicz of Atikokan, ON., grandchildren, Michael (Delores), Dawn (Greg), Cassandra, Jaydn, Cory, Bradley, Kade, Erik, and Candra; one great granddaughter, Hayleigh; and by numerous nieces, nephews and relatives in the Ukraine.

Friends may visit Monday evening at 7 p.m., with parish prayers offered at 7:30 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Atikokan, Ontario.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Atikokan, Ontario. Father Elvis Odoeghbulem will officiate with interment in Little Falls Cemetery in Atikokan, Ontario.

Active pallbearers will be Mark Arnone, Bradley Steele, Kade Arnone, Erik Urbanowicz, Jaydn Cory and Greg Faulconer.
