My journey started on February 24, 1952 at La Verendrye Hospital, the third child of incredible parents, now departed Josephine and Paul Hogan. It ended peacefully on earth August 4, 2020 at noon with my family by my side.
My older sister Pauline and brother Brad both take credit for my being here-ask them to explain.
My summers were spent on Last Island, Rainy Lake with my cousins and grandparents Mam & Pap.
I left Fort Frances after high school on several adventures which took me overseas and lived in five of Canada’s great cities. Finally after twelve years I returned to my beloved Rainy Lake with two new Hogan’s, a daughter Joleen and a son Josh (Denise).
Our children blessed us with five grandchildren: Caitlin (Josh Scott), Gavyn, Jenaya, Ottawa and Scotia. All with different personalities; every one of them brings Laurie Ann and I great fun and joy. We are very proud of all their accomplishments and I’m hopeful for their futures. I built the home of my dreams on the shores of Windy Point in 1999 where the family had numerous fun times year around.
Rainy Lake gave us great gifts time after time but the greatest gift came on a summer night in June of 2000 when I met my best friend and wife Laurie Ann who loves the lake as much as I. Together we hosted many holiday suppers and parties with family and friends. We spent the last ten winters at our condo home in Tucson, Arizona where we met and enjoyed many new friends.
Those who know me can attest to my love of aviation. I got to fly in over fifty different types of planes from the twenties and thirties by-planes to WWII trainers and bombers.
Our move from Rainy Lake could not have come at a better time. I am so relieved that I’m leaving Laurie in such a great place with the most incredible neighbors you could imagine.
I have chosen not to have a service and after my cremation be put to rest in my beloved Rainy Lake. Don’t feel sad for me because my life has been blessed in so many ways it could fill a book. However, don’t forget to miss me when I am gone and the odd toast would be appreciated.
No flowers please, instead if you wish please make a donation to feeding our homeless or the local Salvation Army.
To my family and friends – thanks for the love! I love you all and from Rainy Lake onto my next journey!
Thank-you Fort Frances – Over and Out!
P.S. To my card playing buddies – I’ll be at the next game.
A favorite poem:
May the Irish hills caress you
May her lakes and rivers bless you
May the luck of the Irish enfold you
May the blessing of Saint Patrick behold you.
