

With great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Rosie Spencer, 73, of Atikokan, ON on January 19th, 2018.
Rosie was born on August 20th, 1944 to the late Jack and Rose Spencer.
Rosie as predeceased by her parents Jack and Rose Spencer; siblings Hilda Yerxa, Robert Spener and Margaret Spencer; daughter Cynthia Spoon; son Greg Spoon and granddaughter Danielle Spoon.
She is survived by her siblings George, Dave, Steve (Susan) Spencer; sons Darren Spoon (Wendy), Monte Spoon, Marcell Spoon (Carla) and daughters Janet Spoon, LaVern Spoon and Valerie Mainville (Eugene) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rosie spent most of her life living in Seine River, married and had 8 children. She attended college in Regina, SK and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She worked a long and rewarding career as a social worker for her community until her retirement.
After retiring, Rosie raised and took care of her grandson Darius Morrison. She was always there to help and support her family when needed. She was a loving, caring, welcoming, compassionate person with an easy going personality and a great sense of humour.
Rosie was fluent in her native language. She loved her culture and traditions and would travel to area powwows to watch her grandchildren dance. She spent time sewing regalia, making moccasins and beading. She enjoyed travelling and taking roadtrips. She often travelled to the Dakotas to attend NAC (meetings/ceremonies) and enjoyed spending time at Mudge’s Camp. She also enjoyed going to garage sales, value village and “Sally Ann” to search for treasures.
A traditional ceremony was held on Wednesday January 24, 2018 at the Seine River First Nation Community Gym. Elder Andrew Johnson officiated with interment in the Seine River First Nation Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Rosie’s family and friends.
