Sharron Anne Piotrowski
13 juin 1946 – 16 juin 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Sharron Anne Piotrowski (Thornton) announces her passing on June 16, 2020. Born June 13, 1946 in Rainy River, Sharron was united in marriage to Peter Piotrowski on February 27 1965. Sharron lived most her life in Fort Frances working and raising her family.
Sharron dedicated her life to raising her children and caring for her family. Time with her children was the priority; the dishes and laundry could wait. Her children have fond memories of days spent visiting neighbours and relatives, trips to the public library, at home baking, gardening, backyard penny fairs and pageants, song and dance performances, ice skating at the outdoor rink and summer afternoons at Point Park.
Sharron was never concerned about the mess and inconvenience of blanket forts in the living room, mud pies, injured birds in shoeboxes, pails of crayfish and minnows and art and craft supplies cluttering the kitchen table.
Sharron always welcomed the neighbourhood kids and cousins to join in; there was always room for everyone. Sharron was actively involved in her children’s education from help with homework and studying to volunteering for school events and field trips.
Sharron loved all creatures great and small; a turtle, a rabbit, a horse, cats and dogs, Sharron’s love for her animal family was mutually unconditional. Sharron made friends easily; taking time to listen to everyone she met and lending support however she could.
Sharron rarely missed an opportunity to return to her birthplace to see her many Rainy River relatives; the place she felt most at home.
When her children were teens, Sharron went back to school graduating with honours from Confederation College. She then began a long career as an Educational Assistant with the Rainy River District School Board until her retirement. Sharron treasured her school family; Coworkers and Students alike who always had a hug for Mrs. P.
Sharron was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles of all kinds. She was a talented seamstress over the years sewing clothing for her children and as the years passed graduation and wedding dresses and then baby blankets for her grandchildren.
She was often the last to leave family gatherings taking time to catch up with her grandchildren of whom she was so very proud. Sharron and Peter enjoyed countless road trips together with or without a particular destination in mind. They shared a love of music and dancing and could make each other laugh. Sharron had a signature look; long sleeve button-up plaid shirt, blue jeans and a good pair of runners for the countless miles walking with her best friend and daughter Kim; her secret to staying fit and younger for her years!
Sharron is predeceased by her mother Doris; sister Norma; brother Gary; grandson Marek; mother-in-law Julia; father-in-law Jan; brothers-in-law Joe and Tom; and sisters-in-law Mary and Bev.
Sharron is lovingly remembered and forever missed by husband Peter and daughters Jennifer (Mark), Stephanie (Karl) and Kim; chosen family Kathy; grandchildren Brett (Jay), Sarah, Carly (Danny), Adam (Madison), Jonah (Mikayla), Cameron (Emily) and Julia (Tanner). Also left to mourn are brother Mervin; aunts Nancy and Irene; brothers-in-law Carl and Bogdan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sharron’s life had many hardships, however, she endured with resourcefulness, strength, patience, perseverance, humour and hope. She made the best of circumstances both good and bad. Sharron had an open heart, a love of lifelong learning and was always game for any adventure that might present itself.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Sharron’s life will take place at a later date. If friends and family so desire in memoriam donations can be made to the Fort Frances Public Library.

I remember swimming at Bare Ass Beach with Auntie Sharron and the girls, I remember her drinking Pepsi or 7up while my mom drank Coke. And I remember her always having a book or a puzzle on the go. She had time for me when I was in my preteen years and I always appreciated that. She always had time for a chat. She will be missed.

I am so very sorry to hear of Sharron's passing. We worked together for many years in a couple of different schools. After Sharron retired, we would sometimes see each other when she was out on one of her many long walks and we shared many laughs throughout the years. I know that Sharron was loved by all of the students that she worked with for her caring and compassionate way with them. My sincere sympathies to all of Sharron's family. Thinking of you all and keeping you in my prayers during this very difficult time.
