It is with great sadness that the family of Violet Angus announces her passing at 101 years of age on December 18, 2020. Violet was born October 12, 1919 to John and Hannah Christina (Stevens) Chaval in Emo, Ontario. When she was a young girl, her family moved from Carpenter Township to Burriss Township, Ontario. She attended the newly built Burriss consolidated school, travelling to school in the winter along with other children, in a horse-drawn homemade van. When she was older, she enjoyed playing softball with the Burriss ladies softball team. She worked at the Burriss store and post office in her teenage years.
On November 18, 1939, she married Leonard Angus and they were happily married for 61 years. They spent their first winter in Dance Township at their homestead in a log cabin where Len cut wood. In the spring, they moved to their farm in Burriss where they lived for the next 54 years before moving in 1994 to Flinders Place in Fort Frances. Violet spent her years as a homemaker raising her family. She was a wonderful cook and we all enjoyed her family Sunday dinners. Her greatest pleasure was playing games and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was an avid shopper and looked forward to her trips to Minnesota with her family or friends for a “48”. She was a member of the Burriss Ladies Aid for many years, a member of the Redwing Rebecca Lodge and the Knox United Church. She enjoyed a friendly discussion and was never lost for words with her quick wit.
Mom spent her last six years before her passing at Rainycrest Long Term Care Home where she received excellent care.
Violet is survived by her two sons, Gary (Lorna) and Brian (Wendy); her four grandchildren Julie Ste. Croix (Greg), Jamie Angus (Elaine), Melissa Nordin and Sarah Johnston (Andrew); her six great grandchildren Jack Angus, Henry Angus, Rachel Ste. Croix, Reed Ste. Croix, Theo Johnston and Angus Johnston.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Hannah Christina Chaval; her husband Leonard; her sisters Evelyn Lindley (Harley), Mabel Heatley (Bob), Mary Strachan (Dean); her brothers John Chaval (Lillian), Joe Chaval (Helen), Israel Chaval, Bill Chaval; her father and mother-in-law Ernest and Edna Angus; sisters and brothers in-law Helen Hyre (Rollie), Derward Angus (Helma), and Anna Mose (Ernest).
In keeping with Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service at Burriss Cemetery will be held.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Violet’s memory, may be made to the Riverside Foundation for Health Care (Rainycrest LTC), 110 Victoria Avenue, Fort Frances, ON, P9A 2B7 or the Knox United Church, 340 Church Street, Fort Frances, ON, P9A 1E1.
