Albert John Mattis passed recently in Fort Lauderdale, Fl and was originally from Meadville, PA. In his youth, Al, as he preferred to be called, served his country by enlisting into the Air Force. He saw combat action in the Korean War and unfortunately became a POW.
After Al's service in the military, he enjoyed racing cars on dirt tracks and had a long 39 year career at the General Motors engine plant in Tonawanda (Buffalo), NY. His favorite reading genre was westerns.
Al meet his wife, Barbara, in Buffalo NY. His wife preceded him in 2007. His parents, John and Jennie and one step son, Brian also preceded him as well as countless other friends and family that were important to him.
Al is survived by five step sons, Craig, Michael, Jeffrey, Keith, and Timothy as well as three sisters, Mabel, Ruth, and Erma. He has many other family members including grandchildren and great grandchildren that loved him very much. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
