Altagracia Mercado

On the early morning of January 30, Altagracia Mercado of Miramar, Florida died at the age of 55. Altagracia was born in 1965 to Faustina Castro Donato in San Pedro de Macoris. Her highest degree of education was a bachelors in hospitality. Altagracia worked in many different hotels and cleaning services jobs she was the definition of a hard worker.

On June 3rd 1994 Altagracia Mercado married to Jose Luis Mercado and together raised 3 beautiful children. The oldest Carlos Aquino, Luis Mercado and Kiara Mercado. In 1997 Altagracia Mercado and her husband decided it was best for their family and personal goals to migrate to the United States, specifically Miami, Florida.

Altagracia was a dedicated and laborious woman. In 2005 Altagracia and her husband made the decision to open up their own business. Thus My Little Captain was created. She put in so much blood sweat and tears into this business and it has flourished into what it is today.

Despite the circumstances around her health she still managed to work diligently in the family business until she absolutely couldn’t anymore.

Altagracia was loved and cherished by many. Everyone she touched would attest to that. She is a woman of faith and undeniable strength and those characteristics of hers will forever be remembered by her loved ones.

Altagracia “Chachin” is preceded in death by her grandmother Maria, stepfather Tom and brother Cesar. She is survived by her husband, Jose Luis Mercado her 3 children Carlos Aquino, Luis Mercado Kiara Mercado, and several cousins, nieces, nephews and siblings of her own.

A public memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 6 at 12:30 in Saint John XXIII church.
