Aydee Alvarez of Fort Lauderdale, Florida passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the age of 92. Aydee died peacefully and will be remembered by all her family and friends. Aydee was born in Cuba on January 14, 1929, to Ricardo Mesa and Maria (Borras) Mesa. She was raised with nine siblings and was the last survivor of her family’s generation.
Aydee married the love of her life, Francisco Alvarez, and together they raised two sons: Isidro & Hector Alvarez. They fled Cuba to Spain during the turbulent times of the Communist regime and soon thereafter made their home in The United States.
In life, Aydee will always be known to have a tremendous heart. She was caring and always had a yearning to help her family and others back in Cuba. She dedicated 30+ years of her career working for Ann Storck Center taking care of children with disabilities and she loved the children at the center as if they were her own. She worked until the righteous age of 82.
Aydee had a green thumb, and you would see her admiring her avocados and other fruit she would attend to in her yard. She will also be remembered as always having her door open to welcome anyone over for a delicious meal. She was a phenomenal cook and the memories of her delicious congris, fricase de pollo, picadillo, and more will never leave the memories of her family and friends who had the pleasure of eating her food. It made her happy to see people gathered around her table enjoying the meal she made them. It brought so much joy to her life to see people fed and happy.
Aydee was a loving mother, grandmother of five grandchildren: Jacqueline, Leslie, Michelle, Hector Jr., Stephanie, and great grandmother to Keane. She was a strong and caring woman who will be sincerely missed in this world.
Aydee was married to her husband, Francisco, of 60+ years and their love for one another will resonate over generations. Aydee and Francisco passed only a few weeks after one another and the family believes they are reunited once again in the afterlife continuing their love story.
The Alvarez family would like to thank Mercedes and Mieleidy at ALF who graciously cared for Aydee in the final years of her life.
There will be a visitation for Aydee from 12 pm – 1 pm on Wednesday, October 6th, 2021, at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home, in the pyramid. A funeral service will follow from 1 pm – 2pm. There will be a virtual memorial service for those unable to make it in-person from 1 pm – 2 pm via this Zoom link:
