

Born on August 7, 1920, in Richburg, SC, she was the oldest child of the late Reverend Robert “Roy” Brown, Sr., pastor of Moncks Corner Presbyterian Church, and the late Mary Elizabeth “Bessie” McTeer Brown. She was a 1941 graduate of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC, with an AB degree in English, Math, and Library Science. The daughter of an elementary school teacher, Betty always loved learning. She earned a Master’s Degree (MEd) in 1967 from Florida Atlantic University and a Specialist Degree from Florida State University.
Betty, a classroom teacher and a media specialist for Broward County Schools, retired in 1989 after 32 years. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK), American Association of University Women (AAUW), Broward County Retired Educators Association (BCREA), and a member and President of Broward County Association of Media Specialists (BCAMS). Her heart was at First Presbyterian Church, where as a member for over 60 years, she served as a Sunday School teacher, choir mom, theater director, and one of the first women Deacons of the Church. As an avid gardener, she had a backyard full of fruit trees and vegetables. Betty interests included painting, crafts, tennis, swimming and being active.
Preceding her in death were her husband Eugene Maxwell McNaull, Jr. (1986), her four brothers: Robert “Roy” Brown, Jr. (Moncks Corner, SC); Thomas “Arthur” Brown (Manning, SC); McTeer Brown (Orangeburg, SC); and George Stinson Brown (Fort Walton Beach, FL) and her infant son Eugene Maxwell McNaull, III.
Betty is survived by her five children: Betty Jean Prince (John) of Tifton, GA; Robert McNaull of Falls Church, VA; Tom McNaull (Darlenda) of Duluth, GA.; Evelyn Donovan (Jim) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and Martha Auld (David) of Fort Lauderdale, FL. She had nine grandchildren: Brian (Debbie) Blomgren, Beth (Jason) Karnes, Aline McNaull, Tommy (Heather) McNaull, Amber (Sophie) McNaull, Maxwell McNaull, Kelley McNaull, Katie Auld, Laurie Auld and nine great grandchildren: Hannah Blomgren, Benjamin Blomgren, Claire Karnes, Keller Karnes, Catherine Karnes, Liam McNaull, Ellie McNaull, Callie McNaull and expecting in October her ninth great grandchild Millie McNaull. Also surviving is her sister-in-law JoAnn Brown (late George Brown) and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Betty loved her family. Her gentle spirit, sense of humor, and loving kindness will not be forgotten. The McNaull Family expresses deep gratitude for the services of Trust Bridge Hospice and especially for the countless years of compassion from Comfort Care and her private healthcare caregivers, Celia Johnson and Gloria Harvey.
A memorial service will be held on September 19, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Fort Lauderdale Presbyterian Church. Interment will be at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Cemetery Rock Hill, SC.at a later time. A Celebration of Life of Betty Evelyn Brown McNaull will be held at a later date.
