Darline was the youngest daughter of John M. and Rose Agnes Darr. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Utry, her son, John and her baby daughter, Ann Marie, as well as her brother John M. Darr, sister, Rose Henige (Robert) and her grandniece, Jill Darr Rowell (Richard). She is survived by her nephew, John M. Darr, Sr. (Nancy) and her grandnephew, John M. Darr, Jr. (Holly) of Gainesville, Florida, three great nieces and a great nephew. She is also survived by her husband’s loving nieces Peggy Cradick (John), Pat Rausch (Klaus), Kate Meyer (Tim), Mary Mahler (Bill) and nephew Ken Cuddy (Carol), all of St. Louis, Missouri.
After graduating from Harris Teachers College in St. Louis, Darline began her professional career as an elementary school teacher. She and Frank moved to Pompano Beach in 1957, where she continued in that role. After earning additional certifications and degrees, she became a reading specialist for the Broward County School System until her retirement in 1988 as the ESEA Title I Project Coordinator.
She and Frank enjoyed the Florida lifestyle, especially during their summer vacations from school when they would relax in the Florida Keys or travel. In retirement, they discovered the joy of cruising and visited many countries around the world.
After Frank’s passing, Darline became a resident of John Knox Village where she enjoyed 21 years of making new friends and participating in many activities, especially the Happy Hours, hosting many of her own. Until just a few years ago she continued to enjoy cruising with friends and many of her John Knox acquaintances.
“Aunt D” was always a willing participant in any adventure or social occasion, living by the credo, “Don’t invite me unless you want me to come.” She taught us all to enjoy life to the fullest and always look at the positive side of any life challenge, saying many times “There is a season for everything.” The family would like to thank her dear friend, Pat Burke, for her care and support.
A celebration of Darline’s life will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale where she was a founding member. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
