Ethel was born in Pennsylvania to George and Edith Federkeil on June 14, 1925. She married Richard Postlethwaite on June 5, 1954. They moved to Davie, Florida, with their daughter, Janet, in 1962. While living in Pennsylvania, she worked at A&P Grocery Store and was a stay-at-home mom after moving to Florida.
Ethel was very active in the Davie community. She was presented with the Pioneer Award in 2011 by the Broward County Historical Commission for her extensive volunteer work with the Old Davie School. She won many awards at the annual Generations of Taste held at the Old Davie School, and many think fondly of her famous Sweet Potato Roll-Ups.
Ethel was also very involved in the Community Church of Davie (formerly known as Davie United Methodist Church) as a preschool Sunday School Teacher and could often be found in the kitchen serving at events such as the Shrimp Fest or other dinners. Her many desserts were always delicious and everyone looked forward to what she would make.
She enjoyed cooking and sewing for her family, gardening in her yard, and camping with her family and friends. She was always helping others, her family, friends, neighbors, or church friends.
Ethel is survived by her husband, Richard, their daughter Janet, and her four granddaughters, Ellen (Charlie), Angela (Ryan), Deborah (Gianluca), and Joy (Charles), and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Barbara.
