Eugenio G Hernandez

Eugenio was born in Jaruco Cuba to Julia Medina and Prudencio Hernandez on November 15, 1929. He married the love of his life Maria M. Machado on November 28, 1954 in Jaruco. He was a businessman at heart, from the time he was a kid selling candy on the streets to support his mother and siblings to building the largest general store in the town.

It all ended when Communism came to Cuba via Fidel Castro, his store was confiscated, and he was sentenced to 9 years as a political prisoner for suspicion of being against the government. He sacrificed everything to make sure his children and wife Maria would have a better life in America, even if it meant not seeing them again. But his wife did not want to leave him behind in prison. He had his sister and her husband take his 8 year old son Armando to Miami along with their daughters on the Freedom Flights of 1966, knowing his wife would follow and she did, escaping Cuba 2 years later with her daughter Violet through Mexico.

Freedom at last! They were finally reunited when he was released 7 years after his sentence in 1979. Again, his business talents led him to start a business selling table cloths in a Florida market, which was very successful. He was the most generous man to his friends and family, he loved to entertain and cook for everyone, he was an amazing cook. He was an avid reader and knew the history of any place on earth. He was considered a hero to many.

Eugenio is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Maria.

Eugenio is survived by children Armando and wife Patti, Violet and husband Patrick. Sisters and brother, Nila, Ella, Juanita, Gina and Angelito. Grandchildren, Josh and fiancé Valentina, Ashley and husband Tony. Great-Grandchildren, Anthony and Theodore.

A visitation for Eugenio will be held Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 2401 Southwest 64th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317.

Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lauderdale Memorial Park, 2001 SW 4th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315

Eugenio nació en Jaruco Cuba, hijo de Julia Medina y Prudencio Hernández el 15 de noviembre de 1929. Se casó con el amor de su vida, María M. Machado el 28 de noviembre de 1954 en Jaruco. Era un hombre de negocios de corazón, desde el momento en que era un niño que vendía dulces en las calles para apoyar a su madre y a sus hermanos hasta construir la tienda general más grande de la ciudad.

Todo terminó cuando el comunismo llegó a Cuba a través de Fidel Castro, su tienda fue confiscada y fue condenado a 9 años como prisionero político por sospecha de estar en contra del gobierno. Lo sacrificó todo para asegurarse de que sus hijos y su esposa María tuvieran una vida mejor en Estados Unidos, incluso si eso significaba no volver a verlos. Pero su esposa no quería dejarlo en la cárcel. Hizo que su hermana y su esposo llevaran a su hijo de 8 años Armando a Miami junto con sus hijas en los Vuelos de la Libertad de 1966, sabiendo que su esposa lo seguiría y ella lo hizo, escapando de Cuba 2 años más tarde con su hija Violet a través de México.

¡Al fin LIBERTAD! Finalmente se reunieron cuando fue liberado 7 años después de su sentencia en 1979. Una vez más, su talento empresarial lo llevó a iniciar un negocio de venta de manteles en un mercado de Florida, que tuvo mucho éxito. Era el hombre más generoso con sus amigos y familiares, le encantaba entretener y cocinar para todos, era un cocinero increíble. Era un ávido lector y conocía la historia de cualquier lugar de la tierra. Muchos lo consideraban un héroe.

Eugenio está precedido en la muerte por su esposa de 68 años, María.

A Eugenio le sobreviven los hijos Armando y su esposa Patti, Violeta y su marido Patrick. Hermanas y hermanos, Nila, Ella, Juanita, Gina y Angelito. Los nietos, Josh y su prometida Valentina, Ashley y su marido Tony. Bisnietos, Anthony y Theodore.
