Please wear light blue in recognition and support of Evangeline and the Trisomy 18 community.
Evangeline Addison Joy Green (Burke), 3 years and 11 months old, of Davie, passed away in the warm embrace of her mother and father, surrounded by her loving family, and covered in prayer and songs of worship on April 23, 2024, in Hollywood.
Evangeline Joy was born in Hollywood, Florida to Maria Lynne Burke and Kevin A. Green on May 20, 2020. She was an answered prayer and a true miracle. Her smile could soften any heart and brought joy to all who knew her. At 10 months old, her medical journey took her from Joe DiMaggio Childrens hospital in Florida to Cincinnati Childrens hospital in Ohio where she received lifesaving surgery for liver cancer and heart defects. Upon her return to Florida at 15 months old, Evangeline was discharged home to Coral Springs where she was cared for by her mother and cousin, Katrina, who bravely agreed to be medically trained. At this time, Evangeline also attended Sunshine Kids Pediatric Extended Day Center where she was loved on by the nurses and staff.
Despite her complex medical journey, she thrived and lived a very full life. She loved to be around family, go in the pool, travel and go on road trips, listen to music, spend time with friends, nap with her dad, listen to her brother play video games, be held by her sister, she loved the sunshine and cool breezes, to attend her cousins’ concerts, snuggle with her mom and read books, watch Minnie Bowtoons, to swing and bounce, and she loved tasting new foods. She attended the Ann Storck Center in Fort Lauderdale as a PreK student where she made new friends, learned to paint and color, participated in holiday celebrations, and was dearly loved by the staff.
Evangeline and her family are members of the Victory Church Image Bearers group, which includes families with special needs children who meet for fun and fellowship. Through this group Evangeline interacted with ponies, attended a fall festival, learned about science, and enjoyed music therapy. She is also a part of the Born Abel book series which advocates for and educates about medically complex children. You can find her in The Elf by Himself, The Big Deal Birthday, Leary the Leprechaun books and more, where she is forever remembered. Evangeline, her mom, and her Titi Yvonne were also blessed to attend the Camp for Courageous Kids in Kentucky where they made lasting friendships with other trisomy families. At camp, Evangeline went on nature walks, helped her mom with arts and crafts, went in the pool, and even rode a horse! These special memories as well as all the ordinary, everyday moments are what we hold on to as we honor, remember, and continue to Choose Joy for our sweet Evangeline!
Evangeline Joy is preceded in death by her maternal Grandpa, Edward R. Burke, and her Awita, Maria America Gutierrez Burke; as well as many other family members including her namesake, Gran Titi Abuela Evangelia Gonzalez.
She is survived by her parents Maria Lynne Burke and Kevin A. Green; her siblings Ashley N. Green and Ashton Z.
