

Helena Errazuriz Hughes, 83, of Fort Lauderdale FL, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2020. Born in Santiago, Chile on November 5, 1936, Helena was the daughter of Fernando and Helena Errazuriz. She married Arthur Hughes in 1976 and enjoyed a 40 year marriage together, making many wonderful memories along the way.
Helena graduated from Universidad de Chile as an English teacher. Later on, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English literature in Western College and a Master of Arts in Spanish in in American University. In 1976 she graduated as a doctor in Spanish literature and education from Catholic University.
Early in her career, she was a Spanish language and Latin American culture teacher in American University and Howard University. From 1978 and for the following 20 years, Helena worked as a language trainer for the US Government in Washington DC.
She was featured in numerous honors publications, including the 24th edition of Who´s Who in the South and Southwest. In 2019 she received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award due to her leadership and accomplishments during her years in the US Government.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 27th, 11:00am at St. Sebastian Catholic Church (2000 SE 25th Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316). Inurnment to follow in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery in North Lauderdale, FL.
